A disc, circular or round scraper on a broad thick flake, with total re-touch, dating to the Neolithic period (length: 27mm; width: 24.6mm; depth/ thickness: 15mm; weight: 9.13g). There are broad flake scars on the dorsal surface and the flake has been re-touched on the mesial edge and the distal. The distal edge has been re-touched with parallel removals and the left mesial edge with scaled removals on the dorsal surface. The bulb of percussion is unpronounced: soft hammer. The raw material is a very dark flint with the cortex present, and is 100% re-corticated.

Four flint knapped cores, dating to the Early Neolithic (length ranging from 25mm – 34mm; width ranging from 18mm – 27mm; thickness averaging at 11mm; collective weight: 45.01g). All the cores have two striking platforms (and multiple arrises) with broad flake and blade scars. The largest and smallest of the cores are of a mid grey raw material with 100% re-cortication and cortex. The two mid size pieces are of a dark grey raw material, the smaller having a small area of cortex.

Flint thumbnail scraper made from a flake and dating to the late Neolithic - Early Bronze Age. The scraper is sub-oval in shape with a finely retouched curved edge on the dorsal face. About a third of the edge in unworked - this is the butt area where the original flake was struck off the core. The dorsal surface is mostly covered in dark honey coloured cortex apart from on the retouched edges. The angle of retouch is about 45 degrees. The ventral surface has a pronounced bulb of percussion with ripples radiating from this point across the surface. There is no retouch on the ventral s…

A collection of seven worked flints (collective weight: 54.96g), as listed below: 1. One core rejuvenation flake, dating from the Mesolithic – Neolithic period between c. 8000 – 2200 BC. The flake has numerous dorsal scars and is struck off and ‘rejuvenated’, therefore creating a fresh flaking bed on the core face, and prepares the core platform and face for further removals. 2. One core rejuvenation flake, dating from the Neolithic – Bronze Age period between c. 4000 – 2200 BC. As No. 1. 3. One piercer/ awl, dating to the Bronze Age between c. 2200 – 800 BC. A retouc…

An incomplete knapped or flaked flint leaf shaped arrowhead, of Neolithic dating (c. 3500 BC to c. 2500 BC). The arrowhead is approximately 95% complete, missing a small semi circular flake from one side. The arrowhead is leaf shaped in plan, consisting of a pointed oval shape with a semi circular base. It has been made from a piece of secondary debitage as a small amount of cortex (outer rind) is still present on dorsal (upper) face. Both dorsal and ventral (lower) face exhibit a large amount of controlled flaking, with retouch present along the edges. It measures 36.51 mm in l…

Two worked flints, both probably scrapers. One of the scrapers is largely cortical on the ventral face. There appears to be retouch along the right edge, probably allowing the flint to be used as a scraper. This flint measures 31.3 mm long, 26.25 mm wide, 9.4 mm thick and weighs 8 grams. The flint is an orange to brown in colour. The second flint may also be a small scraper. Retouch has been applied to several parts of the flint around the edges. It measures 18.6 mm in length, 11.1 mm wide, 4.8 mm thick and weighs 0.9 grams. It is an orange to dark brown in colour. The f…

Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Neolithic flint leaf shaped arrowhead, probably dating from the early part of the period, from circa 3500 to circa 2500 BC. The flint has been subject to invasive retouch around the edges, though the butt of the arrowhead has not been so extensively finished as the rest, perhaps as it was already sufficiently shaped to be easily attached to shaft. The flint is a pale brown to cream in colour, with some areas of white. It measures 27.45 mm long, 17.3 mm wide, 3.4 mm thick and weighs 1.3 grams.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A retouched flint flake of probable Neolithic date. The flake is sub-trapezoidal in shape and appears to be broken, missing its proximal end. It has been retouched using pressure flaking on the left lateral edge, and was possibly used as a cutting blade. The flint is a pale cream in colour. It measures 15.4 mm long, 24.65 mm wide, 2.7 mm thick and weighs 1.3 grams.

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A prehistoric worked flint, probably a late Neolithic to early Bronze Age arrowhead. The flint is broken, making its precise function slightly uncertain. However, it has been finely retouched in the manner seen on many arrowheads of this period and there is a strong possibility it is a broken arrowhead. The flint is brown in colour and has been subject to retouch around all edges. It is sub-trapezoidal in plan, but presumably would have been sub-triangular in shape prior to the break. It seems likely that the tip of the arrowhead is the part that is missing, although rotating …

A prehistoric worked flint, probably a Neolithic to early Bronze Age blade. The flint has had significant retouch applied to one edge, presumably to facilitate comfortable handling. It is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in section. It measures 32.2 mm long, 10.3 mm wide and weighs 2.8 grams. The flint is a pale cream to brown in colour.
