A flint leaf-shaped arrowhead (length: 24.7mm; width: 17.2mm; thickness; 5mm; weight: 1.79g) with a possibly broken straight end and pointed tip. The surface of both sides has been pressure-flaked with knapping on the curved sides of the lenticular cross-section , working from the centre and projecting outwards. There is a substantial amount of trimmed working along the edges and pointed tip. Leaf-shaped pressure-flaked arrowheads are the high point of the earlier English Neolithic flint industry. They usually have a flat or lenticular cross-section and are asymmetrical in shape, wi…

County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete knapped or flaked flint leaf shaped arrowhead, of Neolithic dating (c. 3500 BC to c. 2500 BC). The arrowhead is approximately 95% complete, missing a small semi circular flake from one side. The arrowhead is leaf shaped in plan, consisting of a pointed oval shape with a semi circular base. It has been made from a piece of secondary debitage as a small amount of cortex (outer rind) is still present on dorsal (upper) face. Both dorsal and ventral (lower) face exhibit a large amount of controlled flaking, with retouch present along the edges. It measures 36.51 mm in l…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire

A Neolithic flint leaf shaped arrowhead, probably dating from the early part of the period, from circa 3500 to circa 2500 BC. The flint has been subject to invasive retouch around the edges, though the butt of the arrowhead has not been so extensively finished as the rest, perhaps as it was already sufficiently shaped to be easily attached to shaft. The flint is a pale brown to cream in colour, with some areas of white. It measures 27.45 mm long, 17.3 mm wide, 3.4 mm thick and weighs 1.3 grams.

Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC

An early Neolithic flint leaf shaped arrowhead. The arrowhead has been finely finished, with invasive retouch applied to the entire surface of the dorsal face. The ventral face has also been retouched, although on this side the retouch is confined to the edges, butt and tip of the arrowhead. There is an interesting cone shaped flaw in the flint on the lower right side of the flint. The arrowhead is lozenge shaped in plan and lentoid in section. It measures 25.9 mm long, 16.9 mm wide, 3.6 mm thick and weighs 1.6 grams. The flint is a pale brown in colour and is slightly transluscent.

An incomplete knapped or flaked flint leaf shaped arrowhead, of Neolithic dating (c. 3500 BC to c. 2500 BC). The arrowhead is approximately 90% complete, missing the pointed tip. The arrowhead is leaf shaped in plan, and would have consisted of a pointed oval shape with a semi circular base. It has been made from a piece of tertiary debitage as no cortex (outer rind) is present on either the dorsal (upper) or ventral (lower) faces. Both faces exhibit a large amount of controlled flaking, with retouch present along the edges. It measures 29.9 mm in length, 18.9 mm wide and 3.3 mm

An incomplete knapped or flaked flint leaf shaped arrowhead, of Neolithic dating (c. 3500 BC to c. 2500 BC). The arrowhead is approximately 95% complete, missing a small fragment from the bottom. The arrowhead is leaf shaped in plan, consisting of a pointed oval shape.. It has been made from a piece of tertiary debitage as no cortex (outer rind) is visible on either the dorsal (upper) and ventral (lower) faces. Both dorsal and ventral face exhibit controlled flaking. The ventral face just has the retouch along the edge, whereas on the dorsal face, it covers the surface. The retouch…
