A knapped flint or chert scraper. The flint or chert is a mid red/brown colour with red/beige patches. In plan it is a sub-drop shape. The dorsal face (the face with the most scars) has retouch around the side and lower edges, the base of the drop shape. The retouch is formed by long, narrow parallel negative scars. The angle of the retouch is c. 60 degrees. The ventral face (smooth face) has no retouch, but has bulbar scars as well as the bulb and concentric rings. The scraper, with the striking platform at the top, is 36.98mm long and is 28.64mm wide. It weighs 10.6g. The scraper…

A prehistoric flint end and side scraper. Length 33.2mm; width: 22.8mm; thickness: 8.2mm; mass: 7.2g. The scraper is formed on a dark gray, almost black coloured secondary flint flake, with approximately 10% cortex remaining on one edge of the ventral side. There is abrupt retouch on part of one mesial edge and the distal end of the ventral side. The dorsal side has gentle ripples of the concoidal fracture, with a series of scars at the proximal end. There is also a large scar on one side of the distal end. The scraper is likely to be prehistoric, probably dating from the mesolithi…

A knapped flint scraper. Length 25.0mm; width: 19.1mm; thickness: 9.9mm; mass: 3.8g. The scraper is formed on a light brown/off white coloured secondary flint flake, with approximately 20% cortex remaining on one side. There are multiple negative flake scars on the flatter side. The other face has semi-abrupt retouch covering the semi-circular distal end, between the cortex at one side, and the break at the other side. The scraper is likely to be prehistoric, probably dating from the mesolithic period (c. 8,300 BC to c. 4,500 BC).

The scraper is formed on a secondary grey coloured flint flake, with approximately 25% cortex remaining on the proximal end of the dorsal side. There is invasive retouch on the dorsal side, with the retouched edge stretching around much of the circumference, excluding the cortex covered proximal end. On the ventral face there is a diffuse bulb of percussion and ripples of the conchoidal fracture. There is also a sub-triangular n…

A prehistoric flint object, probably a Neolithic or Bronze Age scraper. The flint appears to have a bulb of percussion and bulb scar at the proximal end, and retouch has been applied to the distal end, applied from both ventral and dorsal faces. The flint is a cream to grey colour with ochre brown in places. The flint is not clearly diagnostic of a closely defined prehistoric period, and is likely to be Neolithic or Bronze Age in date, dating from circa 4000 to 1500 BC. If more diagnostic artefacts were recovered from the same area, this might allow suggestion of a more closely define…

A largely complete disc scraper, fabricated from a broad, squat flint flake, probably from the later neolithic or early bronze age. In plan the scraper is broadly circular, with a flat striking platform at the proximal end. In profile, the scraper has two convex sides which meet at the distal end, with the flat striking platform at the proximal end. The convex ventral face is formed by a bulb of percussion with a bulbar scar at the proximal end, and gentle ripples of the conchoidal fracture visible towards the distal end. There are some fractures on the perimeter of the ventral face, b…

Flint scraper dating from the late Neolithic - Early Bronze Age. The scraper is semi-circular in shape with a finely retouched section of curved edge on the dorsal face. The scraper appears to have been broken so that part is missing – this may be plough damage. There is a patch of cortex on the dorsal face at the butt. The ventral surface shows the bulb of percussion with ripples radiating from this point across the surface. There is no retouch on the ventral surface. The scraper weighs 3.87g and measures 24.9mm in length, 15.7mm in width and 9.3mm in thickness.

Flint tool, probably a scraper, dating from the late Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age. The tool is sub-oval in shape with one curved retouched edge. The tool appears to be bifacially worked although this may be simply a result of wear. The tool weighs 5.4g and measures 28.9mm in length, 19.8mm in width and 9.4mm in thickness.

A complete knapped flint circular scraper (that appears to have been adapted from a core rejuvenation flake, dating to the Neolithic period between 4000 – 2200 BC (diameter: 19mm; thickness/ height: 12mm; weight: 4.6g). There is no indication of a bulb of percussion or ripples/ ‘lunettes’ on the ventral side of the scraper, and there are multiple arrises on the dorsal side. The retouched edge appears around the circumference of the artefact, with large and more extensive retouched areas down one side in particular. The form of circular scrapers is found across a broader date r…

An incomplete knapped flint probable circular scraper, dating to the Neolithic period, between 4000 – 200 BC (diameter: 33mm; thickness: 5.5mm; weight: 4.7g). There is retouch on both sides of the scraper, which is particularly evident on one side where the retouch runs around its circumference. The artefact has been broken across the centre. The flint is dark brown/ grey in colour. According to Bond, C, J, 2004 ‘Guide to the Identification, Assessment and Recording of Lithics, Version 1’, page 206, a scraper is ‘a retouched form that retains an edge, by retouching to an a…

A Neolithic scraper and blade dating between 4000-2200 BC (length: 38mm; width: 37.7mm; thickness: 10.5mm; weight: 11.19g). The bulb of percussion on the ventral side is clearly evident with a slight eraillure scar running downwards by 12mm with few radiatting ripples or 'lunettes' running down the tool's length. There are small radial scars running outwards to the sides from the striking platform and bulb also indicating the pressure of impact. The flint has been pressure-knapped from the ventral to create flaking scars/ re-touch on the dorsal down the right side. One area of thes…

A Neolithic flint scraper, dating from 4000-2200 BC (length: 27.2mm; width: 20.5mm; thickness: 8.5mm; weight: 4.68g). There is no visible striking platform and only slight evidence of the bulb of percussion in the top left corner on the ventral side with numerous fine radiatting ripples or 'lunettes' covering the length of the flint. There is a large flaking scar from the top right side of the dorsal creating a ridge down the centre. Pressure flaking from the ventral side has created small abundant flaking scars/ re-touch at the top, down the left side and at the bottom. The patina…

A probable flint button scraper (25.3mm x 18.8mm; thickness: 6.1mm; weight: 3.49g). General working all over the surface and slightly along one of the edges, indicating its use as a cutting tool. Along the dorsal, there are three main arrises. On the ventral side, there are multiple ripples or 'lunettes' radiatting from one particular side where the bulb of percussion is no longer visible.
