Five prehistoric worked flints recovered from the same area. The flints are Neolithic to early Bronze Age in date. One flint is a scraper on a flake, exhibiting retouch along both lateral edges and the distal end. It measures 31.31 mm long 26.18 mm wide, 10.05 mm thick and weighs 10.1 grams. The flint used is pale to dark grey in colour. A second flake may also have been used as a scraper, and this one also has retouch along both lateral edges and its distal end. It measures 22.95 mm long, 20.95 mm wide, 5.61 mm thick and weighs 2.6 grams. The flint used is a pal…

A prehistoric flint object, probably a Neolithic or Bronze Age scraper. The flint appears to have a bulb of percussion and bulb scar at the proximal end, and retouch has been applied to the distal end, applied from both ventral and dorsal faces. The flint is a cream to grey colour with ochre brown in places. The flint is not clearly diagnostic of a closely defined prehistoric period, and is likely to be Neolithic or Bronze Age in date, dating from circa 4000 to 1500 BC. If more diagnostic artefacts were recovered from the same area, this might allow suggestion of a more closely define…

There are also negative scars on the dorsal surface where other flakes have been removed. Possibly very fine retouch is visible on the left edge, although this may have been caused by abrasion. The tip has been broken off, and judging by the even patina on the flake this seems to have occurred some time ago, although whether this occurred in prehistory is difficult to determine. An irregular knapped piece of blade-like debitage dated provisionally to the later Mesolithic period (6500-4500 BC). The debitage has a small area of cortex on the upper edge - suggesting that it has been struck from the outer edge of a core. One long edge has abrupt retouch applied with a hard hammer, although this may be a bi-product of movement within the ploughsoil. The blade measures 23.3mm length, is 13.5mm wide and 4.4mm thick; it weighs 1.27 grams.

A worked flint flake of prehistoric date. The flake has a clear bulb of percussion and striking plaform at the proximal end as well as a bulbar scar on the ventral face. The flake exhibits what may possibly be retouch on both left and right edges, although there is a strong possibility that this 'retouch' is the result of accidental damage caused during use of the flake as a cutting tool or even after deposition. This is suggested by its slightly irregular spacing with only small areas of both sides exhibiting retouch, along with a lack of any clear functional reason for the applicato…

A collection of twenty-nine knapped flint waste flakes or debitage, probably dating to the Neolithic period between 4000 – 2200 BC (collective weight: 117.57g). None of these flakes/ debitage appear to have a bulb of percussion or radial scars visible, although ripples or ‘lunettes’ are evident on most pieces indicating the force of the striking or knapping and some have multiple arrises. Additionally, there is little evidence of finer knapping along the surfaces of the flakes in order to produce a sharper working edge.
