Two tertiary waste flakes / debitage of flint dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age periods (2900 – 1800 BC). Both the flakes are relatively small being irregular in plan and profile with a series of varying sized flake facets present on the outer (dorsal) faces. All have clear bulbs of percussion and conchoidal fractures. There is no evidence of reworking or secondary flaking present. These flakes are clear evidence of flint knapping at this site.
Both the pieces of flint are patinated. They have combined weight of 10.97 grams

Tertiary waste of mid grey coloured flint probably dating to the Neolithic period (3500 – 2100 BC). The flake is broadly sub-triangular with a bowed curved edge. Clear flake facets can be seen on the ventral face; where both direct and indirect flaking an be observed. The indirect retouch is positioned around a notch in the edge; above this is an area of direct percussion knapping to create a crude cutting edge.
The flake measures: 22mm length, 10.3mm width is 5.0mm thick and weighs 0.82 grams

Two tertiary waste flakes / debitage of flint dating to the later Mesolithic - early Bronze Age periods (4500 – 1800 BC). Both the flakes are relatively small being irregular in plan and profile with a series of varying sized flake facets present on the outer faces. There is no evidence of reworking or secondary flaking present. These flakes are clear evidence of flint knapping at this site. It is possible that these represent reduced or reworked cores, due to their chunky nature and multiple faces, however the do not survive well enough to be sure of this hypothesis.
Both the pie…

Secondary waste flake / debitage of flint dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age periods (2900 – 1800 BC). The flake is irregular in plan being more like a chunk or chip than true flakes. Flake facets are present on the outer (dorsal) face, although some of these are uncontrolled probably from plough roll. There is no evidence of reworking or secondary flaking present. The flake has less than 50% cortex (outer rind), which is a mid grey white colour – possibly originally from a chalk or limestone based procurement source.

Two of the flakes are relatively small, being irregular in plan and profile with a series of varying sized flake facets present on the outer faces. The third flake is approximately double the size of the other two, is subrectangular in shape, with a series of varying sized flake facets present on the outer faces. Knapped and flaked tertiary flint flake / debitage or possible scraper of later Neolithic date. The flake is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and D shaped in cross section. There is a crescent shaped post depositional fracture present towards the proximal end of the flake. On the ventral (reverse) face clear evidence of conchoidal fractures and bulb of percussion are present. The majority of secondary work has been applied to the dorsal (upper) face of the flake. The ventral (reverse) is relatively un-flaked. The reworking / retouch has been applied to the distal (lower) end of the fla…

An irregular primary waste flake / debitage of probable Neolithic date (3500 - 2100 BC). This piece of flint has been deliberately removed from the outer face of a flint nodule to prepare it for further work and tool production. Conchoidal ripples are present on the dorsal (reverse) side. There are several flint removal scars that are mostly likely the result of plough roll. It measures 45.17mm length, 41.13mm width, 11.65mm thick and weighs 19.4 grams.

There are flint scars present from post depositional damage such as plough roll. This flake is clear evidence of flint knapping at the site. The flake measures 32.48mm length, 51.20mm width, 5.01mm thick and weighs 9.5 grams.

Possible retouched flint projectile (arrowhead) of Neolithic date (3500 - 2100 BC). The projectile point has been formed from a tertiary waste flake / debitage and is broadly leaf shaped (sub oval) in plan. It was not completed due to faults in the flint matrix and was rejected as a projectile (arrowhead). Evidence for retouch or secondary working can be seen along the pointed end / edge of the flake. The reworking is fairly rough, with small facets taken off to form a crude serrated edge. The flint is mid brown colour, with some white patination present. It shows limited abrasion evi…

Five tertiary waste flakes / debitage of Neolithic or early Bronze Age date (2500 - 1800 BC). Four of the flakes are irregular in shape, the fifth is sub rectangular. All demonstrate either a clear bulb of percussion, conchoidal ripples, or flaking scares. There is some retouch along the edges, turning the debitage flakes into scrapers. All demonstrate a number of uncontrolled fractures, probably the result of movement within the soil. Together they all weigh 18.1 grams 1. Measures 20.35mm length, 21.96mm width, 5.90mm thick and weighs 2.8 grams. 2. Measures 34.24mm length, 17.20mm wi…

Three waste flakes / debitage of Mesolithic to Neolithic dating (4000 to 3000 BC). All three are irregular in shape. One consists of primary debitage, with more than 50% of the surface being covered by the cortex (outer rind). The other two are tertiary debitage, with little or no cortex (outer rind) present. Evdience for working consists of a clear bulb of percussion and controlled conchoidal fracturing. There is evidence of uncontrolled fracturing and plough roll, probably from movement in the soil. Together they weigh 13.1 grams. 1. Measures 42.02mm length, 19.26mm width, 10.16mm t…

Two tertiary waste flakes / debitage of Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date (3000 - 1800 BC). Both are a mid brown colour and have an irregular plan. A series of varying sized flake facets are present on the outer (dorsal) faces. Along some of the edges, is evidence of reworking but this could be due to plough roll and movement in the soil. Together they weigh 4.0 grams. 1. Measures 19.14mm length, 19.54mm width, 3.88mm thick and weighs 2.2 grams. 2. Measures 24.82mm lengthm 13.23mm width, 5.77mm thick and weighs 1.8 grams.
