Small snapped blade of probable later Mesolithic date (6500-3500 BC). The blade is irregular and possibly is a core rejuvenation flake. The blade consists a clear faceted striking platform on one edge, below which a series of flake scars are present on the dorsal face. The upper scar on the dorsal face is irregular, possibly due to a flaw in the flint. The lower two scar facets represent the removal of blades in an opposite direction (probably with the core being worked in a direction of 180 degree to the striking platform present on this flake. The reverse (ventral) face has several a…

Four struck or knapped snapped blades of later Mesolithic date (6500-3500 BC). All four blades vary in size and shape. However, all are sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross section. Most of the blades consist of a bulb of percussion and all show conchoidal fractures. One piece (the light pink coloured blade) is formed from chert and is much coarser in matrix than the others. One blade (the smallest of the group) has blunt retouch along one side, creating a serrated edge. Another (with the point) has been retouched from the point to half way along the edge, creating a cur…

Small waste blade, core trimming flake, of late Mesolithic date (6500-3500 BC). The blade has a small area of cortex on the outer edge and shows several distinct facets where previous blades have been removed. There is no retouch present. It is a mid- grey colour with a slightly milky whit coloured patina. It measures 21.4mm length, 10mm width is 4.4mm thick and weighs 0.99 grams

Snapped flint blade, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500-2900 BC). The blade is sub-rectangular in plan with a series of four blade facets on the upper dorsal face. The ventral face shows evidence off conchoidal ripples but there is no evidence of the bulb of percussion. The upper and lower edges have both been snapped. There is little evidence of retouch; it is possible that there is direct percussion flaking along one edge, although this can be produced by plough roll. The blade measures: 15.7mm length, 15.5mm width is 2.8mm thick and weighs …

Flint blade, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500-2900 BC). The blade is sub-rectangular in plan with a series of multiple blade facets on the upper dorsal face. The ventral face shows evidence off conchoidal ripples and the bulb of percussion. There is little evidence of retouch; it is possible that there is slight reworking on the ventral face where four parallel flakes have been removed to sharpen a small area. The blade measures: 40.8mm length, 19.1mm width is 7.4mm thick and weighs 3.5 grams

Two flint blades, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500 BC to 2900 BC). Both blades are sub-rectangular in plan, with a triangular cross section. There are multiple small flint facets down the external edges of each probable blade. One of the flint blade is broken. The ventral (lower) surfaces demonstrate a bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples. The dorsal (upper) surfaces demonstrate a central ridge. The broken flint blade demonstrates signs of retouching down the external edge. There is a small amount of cortex (outer rind) present on each blad…

A flint blade, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500 - 2900 BC). The blade is subrectangular in plan, with a series of ridges on the dorsal (upper) face. The ventral (lower) face shows evidence of the bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples. There is evidence of retouch along both edges of the blade, with multiple small flake scars present. There are some irregular, uncontrolled flake scars, suggesting later post depositional damage such as plough roll or movement in the soil. The blade measures 33.91mm length, 18.16mm width, 3.76mm thick and weigh…

Snapped knapped flint blade of probable later Mesolithic or earlier Neolithic date (6500 – 3500 BC). The flint is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and lentoid in cross section. The ventral (reverse) face has a distinct bulb of percussion and conchoidal fractures which have been broken across loosing the striking platform and heel of the flake. The dorsal face show several flake scars. There is a abrupt retouch to the long edges on the dorsal face which is evenly spaced and creates a relatively regular scraping edge. The flint is a black colour with a series of flaws and different colo…

Snapped knapped flint blade of probable later Mesolithic (6500 – 4500 BC). The flint is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and lentoid in cross section. The bulb of percussion is lost. The dorsal face show several long flake scars. The long edges and the blunt end have been heavily reworked with relatively neat and regular facets. The flint is a grey colour with a series of flaws and different coloured areas in the matrix. The flint blade measures 16.7mm length, 15.2mm width, and 5.4mm thick; it weighs 1.82 grams.

Segment of a snapped flint blade of probable late Mesolithic date (6500BC - 3500BC). The flint tool is sub-rectangular in plan and profile and consists of the upper part of a blade. It measures ??? length, ??? width, and is ??? thick. The blade weighs ???. The bulb of percussion is clear on the reverse of the flake; the opposite end has been snapped. The two long vertical sides of the blade have both been reworked / retouched. This is most evident on the middle and upper edges. The left hand edge seems to have been reworked more comprehensively than the right; there is a higher density…

Small segment of a snapped flint blade of probable late Mesolithic date (6500BC - 3500BC). The flint tool is sub-rectangular in plan and profile and consists of the lower part of a blade. It measures ??? length, ??? width, and is ??? thick. The blade weighs ???. The bulb of percussion has been snapped off, and this end has been roughly trimmed. The opposite end has also been trimmed, but this has been achieved by more careful knapping. The left hand long vertical side has been reworked. There are also a number of scars on the blade presumably caused by damage in the plough soil. …

The blade is struck from small flint core; it is rectangular in plan; being triangular in section, and has not been reworked / retouched. The dorsal faces of some of the flakes show ridges and flake scars from previous removals whilst the reverse / ventral face shows conchoidal ripples The blade measures: Length, 14.8mm, width 12.3mm, thickness 1.7mm and weighs 0.31 grams

Incomplete snapped flint blade of probable later Mesolithic or early Neolithic date (6000BC - 3500BC). The flint tool, probably best described as a knife, is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross section. The blade has been snapped and only the upper part survives; this break is intentional and from the period of use. The bulb of percussion is lost on the lower (ventral) face as is the prepared knapping platform on the upper (proximal) edge. The upper (dorsal) face of the blade has a number of clear facets and ridges. The long edges are both retouched on both the…
