A neoltihic notched flake. The artefact is a tertiary flake made of black flint with occasional white inclusions and appears to have a semi glossy patina. The flake is trapezoidal in plan being wider at its distal end than its proximal end.  The dorsal surface has a notch taken from its right hand side which may show some retoutch. The ventral surface lack retoutch but has a medium bulb of percussion and an eraillure scar are visible, as are some medium conchoidal ripples close to the distal end. It is ogival in plan and the face is covered by hammer struck retouch marks. The left-hand tang (when viewed from the dorsal face, point up) has been broken and reworked resulting in a minor discrepancy between barb lengths, or it is just difficulty with working a rather thick part of the initial flake blank. The point also appears to have been broken with no reworking. Length: 16.41mm, Width: 16.8mm, Thickn…

According to Wymer's (1999) typological series, it can be described as part of his Mode 2 technology, Type F, with a trimmed butt, straight sides and an acute point. The handaxe has a brown patina corresponding to prolonged deposition in terrace gravels. The tip has a relatively fresh break which shows a brown coloured flint typical of nodules available from paleogene clay-with-flints deposits in d…
