A flint flake or possible blade, probably dating to the Neolithic period (c. 4000-2200 BC). The object is composed of a light grey flint that is sub-triangular in plan with a pointed tip at one end and a broken square edge at the other. A raised central ridge runs the length of the dorsal surface from tip to base from which the faces slant downwards either side towards the bladed edges. The edges are slightly rounded and may have been retouched. The ventral surface is curved and smooth. The flint measures 41mm in length, a maximum of 18mm in width and a maximum of 6mm in thickness. It …

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete flint axehead, possibly part of an unfinished roughout dating to the Neolithic period (c. 4000-2400 BC). The surviving piece is probably part of a broken blade end that is roughly oval in shape with a squared-off edge at the break. Most of the butt end appears to be missing. The surviving blade end is roughly lentoidal in cross-section with a convex curved blade that tapers roughly evenly in width to the blade edge. Neither the blade, edges nor surfaces have any evidence of polishing though there are several patches of cortex, especially towards the broken edge. The flint…
