A frgament from a Neolithic polished flint axehead dating from c.4000-2100 BC. Polished axes are very labour intensive and are thought to have held high value during this period. Polished axes were traded throughout Britain and Western Europe. In this example only the tip survives. The flint is covered in thick white patina suggesting a chalk downland source. It measures 43.79mm long, 42.43mm wide and is 22.84mm thick. It weighs 39.8 gms.

A complete flint, partially ground and polished axehead head dating to the Neolithic period. The axe head is made from a whitish-coloured flint. It has rough bifacial removals with the rounded butt of the axe ground smooth and polished on either face. It is unclear whether this is an unfinished polished axe, or whether the restricted area that is ground and polished was intentional. Polished axes are characteristic of the Neolithic period; this specimen is likely to date to the Late Neolithic, c. 2700-2300 BC.

A complete Neolithic bifacially-worked flint axe 128mm long and 44mm wide. The axe is made from a a light grey mottled flint with iron staining and a patch of cortex survives on one side. The blade is now blunt.

A complete ground or polished stone axehead of Neolithic date, c. 4000-2500 BC made from an igneous greenstone. The axe is in very good condition and is complete apart from a post-depositional damage of a large flake removal on one face, some crushing of the cutting edge and a small chip broken from the narrow end. The axe has a smooth ground surfaces with both edges heavily ground to a rounded profile.

A flint axe made on a tertiary flake, and probably dating from the Neolithic period, possibly a rough-out. The axe is quite a small example and has large flake removals on the dorsal surface. The reverse (ventral) side of the axe is roughly fractured and some limited flaking is evident at one end. Some re-cortication is evident, and part of the platform is retained. Probably Neolithic in date, c. 4000-2200 BC.

A fragment of a ground flint axe of Neolithic date. What survives may be the butt end but it appears to have been used as a hammer and which end survives is not clear. The axe has a chalky cream patina with much iron staining.

A fragment of a flint Neolithic (c.4000-2350 BC) polished axehead. Only the cutting end survives. The break is old and at a diagonal angle to the cutting edge. The fragment measures 38.7mm long, 64.2mm wide and 24.5mm thick. It weighs 56.68g. The fragment is lenticular in section. The axehead has been completely polished by grinding. The surface of the axehead is almost completely covered in white and pale grey patination (including along the broken edge). More recent damage is slightly darker in colour. There are patches and lines of iron staining on both faces.

An incomplete flint axehead, possibly part of an unfinished roughout dating to the Neolithic period (c. 4000-2400 BC). The surviving piece is probably part of a broken blade end that is roughly oval in shape with a squared-off edge at the break. Most of the butt end appears to be missing. The surviving blade end is roughly lentoidal in cross-section with a convex curved blade that tapers roughly evenly in width to the blade edge. A broken and incomplete Neolithic flaked and polished flint axe, dating to c.4000-2350 BC. The surviving axe is sub-triangular, almost trapezoidal, in form with a damaged but mostly rounded terminal edge on one side and an irregular diagonal break on the opposite side. The long edges expand in convex curves from the blade to this wider broken terminal. An incomplete damaged Neolithic axehead which has been repurposed to form form a scraper. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and a pointed oval in cross section and profile. In plan it has one transverse edge and one curved edge both of which have flake removals to create rough edges to the object. Only one side of the scraper retains the smooth edge of the original axe representing the side facet of the polished axe. A crude struck flint handaxe probably dating c. -4000-2400 The hand axe is sub-oval in form with a point of maximum width placed one third of the way down its length and a a vesica shape (pointed oval) in cross section. A late neolithic or early Bronze Age ground flint axe made from a mottled grey flint which has patinated ochre. The axe is complete save for modern flake damage on one edge and possibly also on the butt. The blade of the axe has been ground to a smooth surface although on one side the flake scars are too deep to exhibit much of the ground surface. The axe measures 129.71mm by 60.89mm and is 60.89mm thick. The thinness of the axe suggests that it could be influenced by contemporary metal axes.
