A incomplete late Neolithic / Bronze Age tanged and barbed arrowhead. The arrowhead is long and slender having been finely worked bifacially. The tang is pointed and again worked bifacially. The tip of the arrowhead is missing but otherwise it is a very well made and well preserved object with no indication of post-depositional damage. Arrowheads of this type are not a common find; those more often found are usually short and squat.

A frgament from a Neolithic polished flint axehead dating from c.4000-2100 BC. Polished axes are very labour intensive and are thought to have held high value during this period. Polished axes were traded throughout Britain and Western Europe. In this example only the tip survives. The flint is covered in thick white patina suggesting a chalk downland source. It measures 43.79mm long, 42.43mm wide and is 22.84mm thick. It weighs 39.8 gms.

The scraper is a sub semi-circular shape in plan. The rounded edge has been knapped on the dorsal surfacing, forming an oblique angle. The reverse is the ventral surface. The flint is a mottled grey/blue/white colour.

An unusually large and chunky Neolithic arrowhead dating from c. 4000 - 2100 BC. The arrowhead was the cause of consideration by Alison Roberts (Ashmolean Museum) and Prof. Nick Barton (Institute of Archaeology), and thanks are given for their comments, which follow: 'The flint appears at first to be of considerable age, however it is too small to be of Upper Palaeolithic origin, but is not quite right for the Neolithic period either. There are large laurel-leaf arrowheads of the Neolithic that have been found in East Anglia, so it is probably better to consider this as a Neolithic…

Two flint scrapers, probably dating from the late Neolithic to the Bronze Age. Both scrapers are made on tertiary flakes and have steep soft hammer retouching at the dorsal distal end and down laterals. Both of these tools have been damaged post-deposition and are missing portions. The colour of the flint varies from a light to mottled grey brown. These objects are part of a larger collection from what appears to be a multiphase site.

An irregularly shaped multiplatform flint core of probable Neolithic date. The core retains a very small area of cortext (c. 10%). The colour of the flint is a mottled light to mid grey. There are definately two platforms visible, however removals seem to have been made from other places too as there are several multi-directional removals over the surfaces. C. 4000-2350 BC). A flint blade with miscellanous retouching on both ventral and dorsal surfaces. The retouched flake has been formed from a light grey-brown tertiary flake. The blade retains the platform and bulb of percussion. Fine parallel soft-hammer retouch is evident around the distal end, qhich is quite square - it maybe that this flake was intended to be a formal tool or arrowhead but was rejected or discarded. This retouched flake probably belongs to the Neolithic or Bronze Age period (c. 4000-1100 BC). This object is part of a larger collection from what appears to be a multiphase site.

A blade-like flake, possibly a core rejuvination flake (debitage) dating to the prehistoric period. The secondary flake is made on a mottled blue-brown flint with the lateral edges showing some recortication. There are several long thin removals on the dorsal sidem and the ventral side retains the platform and small bulb of percussion, which indiates that the flake was struck with a soft hammer (bone). The flake is not particularly diagnostic so a wide date range of Mesolithic to (early) Bronze Age must be used.

A complete flint? polished axehead dating to the Neolithic period (c. 4000-2500 BC). The axe is in very good condition and is of high quality. The stone is a mottled light grey and mid brown colour. The axe has side facets and a thin butt. It has been polished all over and the cutting edge has been resharpened and re-polished in antiquity after being damaged. An area of damage on one side was caused by the finder hitting it with a pickaxe when it was discovered some c. 60 years ago. This is a very nice example of a Neolithic polished axe.

A complete flint, partially ground and polished axehead head dating to the Neolithic period. The axe head is made from a whitish-coloured flint. It has rough bifacial removals with the rounded butt of the axe ground smooth and polished on either face. It is unclear whether this is an unfinished polished axe, or whether the restricted area that is ground and polished was intentional. Polished axes are characteristic of the Neolithic period; this specimen is likely to date to the Late Neolithic, c. 2700-2300 BC.

A barbed and tanged flint arrowhead, probably Late Neolithic in date (based on the most similar examples in Bond (2004, 147; ref. 180). One barb is broken with the point missing. The tang is relatively thick (6.9mm) and appears off centre due to a small chip. The point of the head is also snapped off.

A small leaf-shaped flint arrowhead, with small amounts of iron stain forming on the dorsal side. There is some patina on the right side of the dorsal side. On the ventral side there is a completely flat face; there are three clear faces on the dorsal. The point is broken off and there is a small chip in the left cutting edge, when looking at the dorsal face. The very deliberate leaf shape leads to the conclusion that this is an arrowhead rather than a microlith, and the date of Later Neolithic is suggested by a similar example, albeit more damaged, in Bond (2004, 142; ref. F140).

A collection of forty-eight (48) core rejuvination flakes of various sizes, dating to the Neolithic period. The majority show surface removals, but none have been retouched for use as either formal or non-formal tools. The majority of the flakes are covered with a white patina covering a blue-grey core, suggesting that the raw material originated from chalk downlands. The closest source is a few miles to the southeast (towards the Ridgeway). Weights vary from 0.7gms to 7.6gms.

A saw blade with serrated edges made on a secondary flake. There is a negative flake scar on the dorsal surface at the proximal end, and a hinge fracture at the distal end. The saw appears to have broken at the distal end. The raw material has a thin bluish-white patina and covers a grey-brown core. The flint probably derives from chalk downlands, the closest source being towards the Ridgeway in the southeast. The saw is 54.27mm in length, 21.4mm wide and 6.4mm thick. It weighs 7.2gms and dates to the Neolithic period, possibly the middle Neolithic.
