Object type: AXE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Incomplete knapped and polished Neolithic flint axe head. The axe is missing part of the cutting edge and all of the butt end but based on the cross-section and angle of tapering is probably of the thick-butted type or possibly of the elongated type of axe. The axe is lenticular with facetted sides in section. Butler (Butler, C. 2005 Prehistoric Flintwork Tempus, p.145) notes that those axes with facetted sides tend to be less than 200mm long. The axe has a rich cream-beige patina with traces of cortex remaining on both faces.

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Worked flint implement of Neolithic date. The tool created from a flake of pale blue-grey flint has evidence of working at three points along its perimeter. The lower edge of the flake has had a combination of invasive and semi-abrupt retouch to create a piercer whilst both edges of the flake have had abrupt retouching to create scrapers.
Tools of this type are dated to the Neolithic (3500-2100 BC).

Lithic Implement: Complete flint scraper of Neolithic date. The implement has been formed from a flint flake and the flat striking platform, bulb of percussion and ripples are notable. The distal end of the flake is still covered in cortex and the semi-abupt re-touch to create the scraper edge is along one edge only. The flint has a milky grey-brown patina.
Scraper tools will have had a variety of uses although the most common suggestion is for cleaning skins.
This scraper has been dated c. 2500 BC-1000 BC.

Neolithic arrowhead; worked flint leaf-shaped arrowhead dating to the earlier Neolithic period, around 3,500-2,500 BC. The arrowhead is worked from translucent, grey-brown flint. It is a narrow point which widens to very angular side points before tapering again towards the butt end. It is roughly lozenge-shaped overall. The arrowhead is minutely worked on both faces with signs of multiple strikings and secondary working.

A single-edged flint scraper formed from a thick flake of Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date. The core that the flake was struck from had evidently been worked in two directions with the dorsal surface of this flake carrying scars from flake removals in opposing directions, with a small area of cortex remaining. The scraping edge, at the distal end is formed of broad invasive removals. The flint is of a dull orange-brown colour. The scraper has clearly suffered some post-depositional damage in recent times. Although such tools probably had varied uses they are commonly linked to …
