Lithic implement, used for cutting or scraping. It is an irregular semi-circle with a protruding 'tang' at one end. Some retouching can be seen along some of the edges. It is made from a dark grey flint which has some white/cream patches in. Most likely from the Bronze Age period although it is hard to date single flint pieces when they are found out of context. Ron Cowell saw an image of this find and comments 'It could be that this is a natural fractured pebble that is fortuitously shaped, which has been picked up and lightly retouched around the curved edge to provide a s…

A mid to late Bronze Age flint tool. It is formed on a large flake of mottled grey flint. There is crude and irregular retouch along the distal end to form a cutting tool, and removals from the right distal side which could be used as a scraping edge. The workmanship is poor which suggests a late date.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint barbed and tanged arrow head dating from the Early Bronze Age. The flint is light grey/brown in colour, slightly mottled, and barely patinated. The arrowhead is invasively worked on both faces and is a "fancy" type of arrowhead, probably a Green Low type. The barbs have oblique ends, and the tang is shorter than the bards and pointed. It has a length of 30.87mm, width 20.53mm, thickness 3.10mm, weight 1.91g. It probably dates from 2500 BC - 1500 BC. For reference see Butler 2005. Prehistoric Flint work p. 165 figure 69, no:1.

Barbed and tanged flint arrowhead, dating from the late Neolithic- early Bronze Age, c. 2500- 1500 BC. Flint barbed and tanged arrowhead with one of the two barbs, and possibly the end of the tang having broken off in antiquity. The arrowhead is triangular in plan with a central narrow tang and two barbs, on e of which projects past the base of the tang, in length, the other is broken and is shorter than the tang. The tang does appear to have broken as it has an uneven edge, but it may be complete. The arrowhead is bimarginally reworked around its entire edge and on both the ventra…

Piece of flint waste probably dating to the Middle Bronze age, (1500-1150BC). It is a pointed oval in plan. One surface is covered with a rough light brown cortex. The opposite surfaces are smooth with a mottled white patina. The flint has been struck from a striking platform on the wider rounded end which has resulted in some of the cortex fracturing off below the cortex. The pointed end appears to have occurred by chance, and there is no evidence of use as a borer. One edge of the flint has been roughly reworked and possibly used ad hoc for scraping rather than having been produced f…

Flint flake dating from the Neolithic to the early Bronze Age, (3500BC-1500BC). The object is sub-triangular in plan and lentoid in cross-section. The longest edge which forms a projection has a retouched edge and there is some fine damage on each side of the point, probably through use. The object has a lentoid striking platform where it has been struck off the pebble. The flint was probably used as a piercing or awl-like point for fairly light activity. The flint is dark brown in colour and probably local to the area. It can be dated to c.2000BC.
