Object type: BLADE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Leicestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Neolithic blade; curved flint blade with reworked cutting edges along both sides and squared-off end. The flint is semi-translucent brown-black and there is an area of pale, chalky brown cortex at one end of the blade. The other end has a small, prominent bulb of percussion on the back face. The blade is of roughly triangular cross-section but a very narrow flake has been taken from the apex of the triangle to give a slightly trapezoidal shape. There is a large notch taken from one side of the blade.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Leicestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete small flint scraper of probably the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age period, dating from c. BC 3000 - c. BC 1500.
The scraper is broadly triangular in shape, with a roughly rectangular cross section. There is no cortex remaining on the surface. The dorsal (upper) surface exhibits controlled working, with minimal retouch (short, sub parallel, abrupt to semi abrupt) along the working edge, this appears to have been done to blunt the edge which suggests the flint was used as a scraper. There are two broad rectangular flake scars, one at the proximal end and one at the di…

Object type: HANDAXE
Broad period: PALAEOLITHIC
County: Leicestershire
Workflow stage: Published
Palaeolithic ovate flint axe, Type K (Wymer 1968 typology). Bifacially worked, with cortex on both sides, suggesting it has been knapped on a flint plaque (hence no bulb of percussion as it was not made on a flake). At least five flake scars on one surface, and at least seven on the other. Relatively fresh condition, not very worn. Some recent damage (probably plough damage), particularly to the right side of one surface, exposing fresh flint. Sandy light orange cortex (c.7%), light grey flint with dark grey and cream mottling (where exposed), and orange-yellow patina. Length 86.2mm,…
