An incomplete segment of a flint blade, dating to the Mesoilthic period (10,000 to 4300 BC). The remaining portion of the blade consists of the platform and bulb of percussion and part of the tapering blade. The tip of the blade is missing. The blade's shape seems to have been formed from three larger strokes for shaping and then further smaller knapping techniques were used to sharpen the edge. It measures 20.83 mm in length; 16.07 mm in width; and 3.33 mm thick. The blade weighs 1.3 g. The colour of the flint implies that it was not exposed to chalk deposits or surface elements, whi…

Roughly circular waste flake, mottled grey colour with bulb of percussion and scar, striking platform, ripples on the ventral surface terminating at the distal end with a small hinge fracture. There are three 'blade' beds on the dorsal surface and a very small area of cortex down one side. Ref. Detector Finds 5, Gordon Bailey, Greenlight Publishing 2002, page 10 Fig ?

Collection of 22 prehistoric blades. 1) Distal end of a blade. Triangular in shape with a rounded tip. One ridge on dorsal surface, roughly parallel to the edges. Retouch on both edges. Opaque white patination. Length: 26.5mm; width: 19.4mm; thickness: 6.2mm; weight: 3.81g. 2) Proximal end of a blade. Triangular in shape. One central ridge on the dorsal surface. Retouch on both edges. Bulb of percussion and one errailure scar present though retouch has removed the majority of the striking platform to form the tip. Translucent black patination. Length: 31.4mm; width: 21.1mm; thickn…

2 prehistoric flint flakes. 1) Medial section of a flake. Rectangular in shape. Multiple ridges on dorsal surface, and retouch on both edges. Translucent brown patination. Length: 41.2mm; width: 17.2mm; thickness: 5.5mm; weight: 3.84g. 2) Flake. Sub-triangular shape. Pronounced bulb of percussion, four errailure scars, and striking platform present. Retouch along part of the distal edge suggests this may have been used as a scraper. Translucent black patination. Length: 23.5mm; width: 48.1mm; thickness: 5.6mm; weight: 5.47g.

A Neolithic (3500-2100 BC) flint tool or waster. The ventral face has significant conchoidal rippling leading back to the proximal end and the bulb of percussion. The striking platform survives just above this. The dorsal faceis mostly covered with cortex. There is some evidance of retouch along one edge, suggesting this flake could have been used as a tool.

A worked falke of uncetrain date, possibly Neolithic to Bronze Age. The flake has a very flat break through the bulb of percussion on the ventral face with some conchoidal rippling. The break has removed the stricking platform completely. The edges are straight then taper to a curved point.. The dorsal face is mostly covered with cortex. There is some evidance of retouch along one edge, suggesting this flake could have been used as scrapper.

Early - middle neolithic flint D shaped or thumbnail scraper. The scraper has been formed from the proximal end of a large blade flake. It is a tertiary flake with no cortext and arrises on the dorsal face from previous removals. The distal end has been broken off in a straight edge. There is extensive retouch on both edges of both sides and around the proximal end which has removed the bulb of percussion. The retouch is long, semi-abrupt and parallel. There is an area of damage on the distal end of the right edge on the ventral side. Although the retouch form is suggestive of a later …

A Mesolithic or Neolithic flint flake. The flake is 24.6mm long, 13.1mm wide, 4mm thick and weighs 1.66g. The bulb of percussion and striking platform are clearly visible on the proximal end. There is a small area of damage or retouch on the proximal end of the right edge of the ventral face.

A Mesolithic to early Neolithic flint blade with extensive retouch. The blade is 41.6mm long, 15.8mm wide, 4.7mm thick and weighs 3.83g. It is a tertiary flake with no cortext remaining and arrises on the dorsal face. The the proximal end abrupt stepped retouch has removed the bulb of percussion. On the dorsal face there is semi abrupt short parallel retouch in two areas of the right edge near each end, with an unretouched area between. On the ventral face there is semi abrupt short parallel retouch on the proximal half of the right edge and in areas of the left edge corrisponding to t…

Fragment of a Mesolithic (8300-3500 BC) flint blade . The fragment is 25.4mm long, 13.4mm wide, 2.8mm thick and weighs 0.96g. This is a tertiary flake with no cortex and the arrises on the dorsal face suggest numerous flakes had been removed from the core prior to this one. There is a lot of damage to the proximal end of the dorsal face, possibly due to the way it was struck. The bulb of percussion, with bulb scars, and shock waves are clearly visible on the ventral face. The blade has been snapped with a clean break after striking but it is not clear if this was deliberate.

A mesolithic mircolith, dating from 8300 – 3500 BC. The flake is a tertiary flake with arrises and bulb scars on the dorsal face showing where other flakes had previously been removed. The striking platform and bulb of percussion have been lost due of extensive shattering of the flint, possibly around natural cracks in the material at the proximal end, particularly on the dorsal face. This small flake may have been struck off as a core refreshment flake. There is a small amount of short semi-abrupt retouch on the right edge at the distal end of the dorsal face. This may have been int…

A collection of seven late Mesolithic to Neolithic flint blades and flakes found together. Possibly the debris of one flint working event. Flakes arrange 1-7 running left to right in the photograph. 1) A large secondary flake with some cortex remains at the base of the flake. The bulb of percussion is present but not very prominent. There is some evidence of retouch around the striking platform. The flake is 58.8mm long, 23.8mm, 9.9mm thick and weighs 19.28g. 2) A blade which appear to be broken by an old break. This is a secondary flake with cortex covering a third of the back…
