A utilised naturally perforated Flint peblle utilised as a possible flint pebble hammer of Mesolithic to early-Neolithic date, c.9000-3300 BC.
It is formed by a oval flint with a central tapered hole. The oval hole appears a natural feature with possible later knapping taking place. Although recorded as a possible Hammerstone it equally could of served as a net sinker. Each end reveals some impact damage/crushing which has not occured to the sides. The flint has a smooth brown patina.

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete segment of a flint blade, dating to the Mesoilthic period (10,000 to 4300 BC). The remaining portion of the blade consists of the platform and bulb of percussion and part of the tapering blade. The tip of the blade is missing. The blade's shape seems to have been formed from three larger strokes for shaping and then further smaller knapping techniques were used to sharpen the edge. It measures 20.83 mm in length; 16.07 mm in width; and 3.33 mm thick. The blade weighs 1.3 g. The colour of the flint implies that it was not exposed to chalk deposits or surface elements, whi…

The top two thirds of two of the faces still have the outer cortex attached. The flint is almost black in colour and is not opaque. It is 35 mm in height. The base is roughly oval in shape and measures length 24 mm x width 17 mm. It weighs 18.6 g.

Object type: HAMMERSTONE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete Neolithic flint core which has then been used as a hammerstone. The core is very roughly cone shaped. 99% of the outer cortex has been removed. There are numerous 'faces' where flakes have been struck from it and the narrower top has then been used as a hammer stone. The flint is black and is not opaque. It is 80 mm in height, with the base 70 mm x 55 mm and the top measures approximately 40 mm x 35 mm. It weighs 425 g.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete but probably unfinished and consequently rather thick flint Arrowhead of Bronze Age date (2500-1200 BC).
The object is of barbed and tanged form and is sub-triangular in plan and plano-convex in section. The object has short abrupt covering retouch removed by pressure flaking. The flaking create a sub-rectangular tapering tang, projecting between them. The object tapers to a tip at its distal end. The dorsal surface has short scaled low angle flaking flaking along both left and right hand edges. The ventral surface is predominantly flat, slightly concave, with some sh…

County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete probable flint or cobble hammerstone of uncertain prehistoric date (c. 4000-700 BC).
Description: The object is roughly cylindrical and shaped with a smooth flint-like slightly broader end, which suggests the hand-held part. There is extensive crushing across much of its opposite end of the cylinder surface and on the sides towards the same end of the cylindrical form, suggesting it's possible use as a hammerstone. Although parts of the stone have the smooth appearance of flint, there is much pitting and coarse particles which make up the whole.

Object type: POLISHED AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of Neolithic polished flint axehead c. 4000 - 2350 BC
The fragment is sub-rectangular in plan and has a rounded pointed oval shaped section. Both ends of the axehead have broken off and it has taken serious other strikes around the axhead, with only about half of the side remaining fairly smooth and polished top surface. It has extensive flaking across the surface but no obvious retouch suggesting attempts were made to rework the axehead but no clear edge appears to have been added.

Object type: CHOPPER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A tool made on a nodule of dark brown translucent flint, full of opaque light grey and some coarser inclusions. The knapper has removed most of the cortex from the nodule and then with a hard hammer struck off a large squat flake. This has truncated the previous large flake scars on the dorsal surface and left only slight adjustments to be made to the plan to make a remarkably symmetrical chopper wedge. From the right a tranchet removal has thinned the blade and further small strikes have smoothed the dorsal surface. Discontinuous bifacial semi-abrupt retouch has given the blade a sha…
