Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Isle of Anglesey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Two pieces of flint found together.
The first is likely to be imported flint and represents a flake from tool production. It is broken and the break is heavily patenated suggesting the break is ancient. It is possible that the flake represents a distal scraper snapped off in use. Later neolithic.
The second piece is an irregular pebble, no sign of deliberate working, probably glacial deposition. Natural.

Large flint flake probably imported material. Although an evocative shape, it is not a tool, the facets are deemed to be the result of natural fracturing; ie not worked.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Isle of Anglesey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Broken waste flake found in eroding field edge. The mid-brown flint flake retains some cortex within the striking platform but was not the primary flake struck from the core – at least two earlier removals are visible on the dorsal face. The bulb of percussion is clearly visible to the proximal end of the ventral face and a smaller bulb scar can be seen within this. There are a number of other angular fractures also visible to this end, possibly a result of hinge or step terminations to other flake removals, or perhaps as a result of natural causes.
The flake has been truncated c. 18…

Waste greyish-brown secondary flake with a pronounced dorsal ridge and which retains some cortex to the distal end.
The ventral face shows a small bulb scar at the distal end whilst ripples emanate from the striking platform at the proximal end suggesting that the core from which it was taken was struck from either end during preparation. A number of other flake removals are evident on both faces.
There appears to be some possible fine retouch along the edges.

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Isle of Anglesey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Primary flake from a probable beach pebble.
The flake does not appear to have been retouched to any great extent, but has been removed from a nodule of flint, probably a beach pebble. The bulb of percussion is clearly evident on the ventral face, the dorsal face is largely comprised of cortex.
It may be of Mesolithic date due to the context – it was found at Trwyn Du, Aberffraw, and another flint flake/blade was recovered at the same time.

Flint blade/flake, truncated at each end and damaged by the effects of burning.
A small flake with a pronounced dorsal ridge (hence alternative identification of blade). It is difficult to confidently classify the type of object due to the damage it has suffered, and it is unclear whether all the flake removals currently visible are the result of human action or burning.
The flake has a chipped ventral face. The chip is close to the bulb of percussion and may be a result of burning. There may be fine retouch visible along the edges of the dorsal face, and flake removals can be c…
