Record ID: GAT-64D580
Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A scatter of flints found in 1998. According to the finder they were found on the seaward side of a field wall near Ogof Llwyd, at Penrhyn, east of Aberdaron.
They comprise 10 small flakes and blades, some of which may have been formed by natural processes. The majority are broken and may be waste flakes left as the result of knapping. Due to the occurrences of cortex in relation to flake size, it is likely that the flakes are the result of working pebbles.

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Retouched flint blade removed from a prepared core, of whitish-grey flint.
The blade, manufactured from a secondary flake, has largely unifacial direct semi-abrupt retouch along both lengths, and a point has been created at the promixal end to the extent that the bulb of percussion is barely discernable. The dorsal face of the blade has a minimum of five negative scars, two of which show a hinged termination.
The original colour of the blade was most likely to have a been dark-grey, and exposure to the elements has resulted in the present whitish-grey appearance.

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A small lithic implement of uncertain date. The flint is sub-rectangular in plan and cross-section with an inverted triangular shaped profile. The ventral (lower) face is smooth with a few ripples and a low bulb of percussion. The dorsal (upper) face is faceted due to the removal of several possible blades. Short, parallel, low angled retouch can be seen along the shortest edge of the object. The flint is toffee-coloured.
