Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Derbyshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint tanged arrowhead (length: 30.5mm; width: 17mm; thickness: 3.5mm; weight: 1.65g). A small crudely worked arrowhead with more extensive working down one edge. The head is rather uneven and tang is very small and fragile (length: 8mm; width: 6mm) and tapers down into a point. There is remains of the original core surface on one side. This arrowhead is clearly paralleld with those of the Sutton 'a' type which mainly occur in the Upper Thames region, Cotswolds and the Midlands (Stephen Greeen, 1980, page 119).

Prehistoric flint worn-edged blade, incomplete - distal end and tip of proximal end broken off. On the ventral surface the bulb end is broken off but the ripples are clearly visible. On the dorsal surface there are two parallel longitudinal flake scars with a ridge between (just off-centre to the left), and a possible further flake scar at the base just above the distal end break. Fine wear along each edge. Fine translucent mid-brown flint with some minute dark and light speckles, no cortex. Probably early Mesolithic (8300BC-6500BC), possibly Neolithic.Length (broken) 28.5mm, width 16…

A small Mesolithic flint blade. The flint is mid grey in colour with some light grey mottling and circular light brown patches. The dorsal face has 5 flake scars removed along its length. The ventral face is smooth with a single ripple and the bulb is at the narrower end. The cutting edges taper to its tip at the proximal end and may have formed a point which has been broken. The distal end is straight and there is a chip on one edge. There is possible abrupt retouch along the length of the straight distal edge. A sub oval shaped side and edge scraper, probably Bronze Age. The flint is dark brown with tan and grey mottling. The dorsal face has invasive retouch and a small area of cortex at its proximal end. The proximal end is broken at one side (this appears to have been broken in antiquity as there is white patination present). There is a small patch of white patination on the dorsal surface (not cortex). The ventral face is flat with faint ripples. Length 30.97mm. Width 22.58mm, thickness 11.94mm. Weight 8.49g.

Lithic implement, worked flint side scraper. No bulb of percussion on the ventral surface, two flake scars. Two flake scars on the dorsal surface with short retouch along the upper half of the left edge, and possibly along the lower half, although this could be damage.
