A knapped Mesolithic or early Neolithic flint blade or bladelet which is probably a microdenticulate. The blade is complete, with the proximal end having a feint bulb of percussion on the ventral face. The dorsal surface has three vertical negative linear scars and one lateral edge has a very fine retouch. This retouch is not particularly visible, but can be felt. It is trapezoidal in section. The flint is a pale mottled grey to white in colour. The bladelet measures 21.05mm in length, 6.02mm wide, 2.62mm thick and weighs 0.4 grams.

A Mesolithic tool on a possibly broken bladelet; probably a microdenticulate. In plan the microdenticulate is sub-triangular with the dorsal surface having two linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface having a shallow bulb of percussion and ripples. Both lateral edges have fine retouch applied from the dorsal face. In profile the microdenticulate is straight. The flint is of a mottled light grey/white. It measures 16.3mm in length, 6.77mm in width, 2.13mm thick and weighs 0.2g. The microdenticulate dates to the Mesolithic period, where they are more common from the early Meso…

A Mesolithic tool on a possibly broken bladelet, probably a microdenticulate. In plan the bladelet is sub-rectagnular in plan with the dorsal surface having two linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface having a shallow bulb of percussion and a slightly curve in profile at the proximal and the distal end is possibly a broken edge. The bladelet is triangular in section. Both lateral edges have very fine retouch applied from the ventral face. This retouch is more visible along one lateral edge than the other, but is still felt on the other. The flint is of a mottled light grey to m…

The dorsal surface has three main linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface has a shallow bulb of percussion and ripples. The distal end is obliquely angled and has re-touch on the edge. This re-touch has been applied at a late date to the manufacture of the blade as it removes the patina. Both lateral edges have very fine notches on most of the length. A Mesolithic flint tool formed from a broken bladelet. The bladelet has been snapped at both ends. Difference in the patination of the external flint and the internal flint revealed at the breaks suggest that these breaks may have been post-depositional, perhaps having occurred during plough action. Fine retouch occurs along the left lateral edge of the bladelet (when held with dorsal side facing). This has been achieved through pressure flaking, both from the dorsal and ventral faces. This row of retouch occurs along the whole side of what remains of this edge, giving the tool a faint…

A Mesolithic tool on a broken bladelet, probably a microdenticulate. The right lateral edge has fine retouch applied from the ventral face along the whole of its length. Retouch on the opposite lateral edge is confined to a small notch taken from the centre of the edge, once again applied from the ventral face. The flint is of a dark grey to light grey colour. The bladelet is trapezoidal in section. It measures 16.2 mm in length, 10.4 mm in width, 3.8 mm thick and weighs 0.7 grams.

A Mesolithic flint artefact, probably a microdenticulate formed from a bladelet. The tool is 31.1 mm in length, 11.6 mm wide and 5.2 mm thick. It is sub-rectangular in shape and trapezoidal in section, with two ridges running towards the distal end from the striking platform. The ventral surface is relatively flat. Bifacial retouch has been applied to approximately two thirds of the right lateral edge (when held with dorsal surface facing). The retouch is limited to this area. It is this retouch, and the absence of retouch on the opposing edge, that suggests that the artefact shoul…

A Mesolithic flint microdenticulate on a bladelet with a possible burin at the distal end. The tool is 26.2 mm in length, 8.3 mm wide and 4.4 mm thick. It is sub-triangular in section. Abrasion scars are visible just below the striking platform on the dorsal surface where the core has been prepared. Immediately above the striking platform on the dorsal face there is a chunk missing, undercutting one of the dorsal ridges. This was probably caused during the initial striking of the blade from the core and does not appear to have been intentional. There is clear retouch to the rig…
