A collection of 3 burnt flint chunks of possible Mesolithic origin. The flints all have multiple flake removal scars and have no evidence of retouch. The chunks all show crazed cracking indicative of being burnt and two of them have areas of red colouring. Chunk 1: Weight 5.5g, Length 18.52mm, Width 18.52mm, Thickness 12.16mm. Chunk 2: Weight 3.9g, Length 27.33mm, Width 13.29mm, Thickness 8.80mm. Chunk 3: Weight 3.2g, Length 18.13mm, Width 11.74mm, Thickness 11.35mm.

A collection of 4 chunks of worked flint of possible Mesolithic origin. The flints all have multiple flake removal scars and have no evidence of retouch. Chunk 1 is heavily re-corticated, indicative of being in the ground a relatively long time after being worked. Chunk 4 is a pale semi-translucent flint, almost quartz-like. There is a shallow bulb of percussion on the ventral surface and a small lump of cortex on the distal end of the dorsal surface. It is possible that this is a core rejuvenation flake. Chunk 1: Weight 2.5g, Length 22.90mm, Width 12.30mm, Thickness 10.07…

An assemblage of 15 pieces of flint debitage of possible mesolithic date. A1: A possible core rejuvenation flake of grey semi-translucent flint. The ventral face is concave with a shallow bulb of percussion and some conchoidal ripples. The dorsal face has two arises at the proximal end that merge into a single central aris at the distal end. The distal point has been snapped off. Both side edges have serrations but these may be due to accidental damage. Weight: 2.0g, Length33.31mm, Width14.4mm, Thickness 4.93mm A2.A flake of heavily patinated flint. A group of three flint debitage of probable Mesolithic date (9000-3450 BC). The lithics are sub-rectangular and sub-triangular in profile, and concave-convex in section. On the dorsal surfaces there are a small number of negative scars with corresponding arrises. Upon the ventral surface of one lithic there is a clear bulb or percussion with corresponding cracking ripples, while one also has a number of negative scars along the ventral surface. Two of the lithics have remains of cortex and are therefore secondary, while the other has none and is thus tertiary. The lithics range in …

A group of five flint flakes of probable Mesolithic date (9000-3450 BC). The lithics are sub-rectangular in profile and plano-convex in section. The dorsal surfaces feature multiple negative scars with corresponding arrises. There is some evidence of short, semi-abrupt re touching on multiple edges. One lithic has some cortex, therefore it is a secondary flake, while the others have no cortex and are thus tertiary. The lithics are a variety of colours including light brown, light and dark grey, red and white. The cortex on lithic one is dark grey in colour. Length: 23.70mm, Wi…

A piece of flint debitage of Mesolithic date, circa 9,000 - 4,000 BC, in the form of a blade. It is a tertiary flake and therefore retains no cortex on its surface. The dorsal face exhibits 5 negative flake scars from previous flake removal. The proximal end has a striking platform and low bulb of percussion, with faint conchoidal ripple marks present on the ventral face. The flint is mid grey-brown in colour with dark grey inclusions. It measures 29.03mm in length, 18.20mm in width, 1.94mm in thickness and weighs 2.18g.

A flake of flint debitage of uncertain age but possible Mesolithic to Bronze Age date (9000 to 2200 BC). This is a flake of semi-translucent grey flint with white inclusions and a light patina. It is sub-triangular in shape and sub-triangular in cross section. The dorsal surface has three flake removal scars with conchoidal ripples that indicate that they were struck from the pointed end making this the proximal end. The distal end has been snapped off and the lack of patina at this end would indicate this was done at a later date. The original flake would therefore have been longer.…

A complete chert blade of Late Mesolithic date (6300-4300 BC). The lithic is sub-triangular. The dorsal surface is convex and contains four predominant negative scars with corresponding arrises and evidence of hinged flake removal within the mesial portion. Both the proximal and distal ends have been abruptly blunted. There is a minor amount of semi-abrupt retouch along the distal left hand edge. The ventral surface is slightly concave with a small bulb of percussion situated at the proximal end. The chert is cream in colour. The lithic retains no cortex and is therefore a tertiary…
