A flint end scraper of probable early Neolithic date. The tool is roughly oval in shape and has been made from a flake struck from a core. A portion of the core's striking platform remains at the bottom. The upper surface of the object is convex and has several vertical arrises. The upper edge (opposite the striking platform remnant) has been retouched to form the scraping edge. There is no evidence of working along the two long sides. The reverse is plain apart from a bulb of percussion which emanates from the striking platform. The surface of the flint is a heavily patinated white. I…

Flint tool, long and pointed at both ends, with a small bulb on the ventral surface, and four flake scars on the dorsal surface. The is an area of short retouch extending a short way along the left dorsal side from the distal end. There may also be some retouch on the right side (including notches?) although this may be damage. Fine light brown flint, no cortex, no patination. Probably a later Mesolithic obliquely blunted point, c.8,000-5,000BC. Length 44.06mm, width 14.39mm, thickness c.5.1mm, weight 2.21g.

A probable flint arrowhead of ?late Neolithic date. The blade is triangular and has a central vertical arrise and two or three transvere flake scars radiating out to one of the two converging sides. A small portion of the cortex remains and is fractured, suggesting that the implement has been burnt. The barbs are uneven and have been formed by the removal of several small chips. The tang is short, rectangular in section, and has been squared off at the bottom. The reverse is unworked. The flint is mid grey in colour. It measures 27mm high by 20.4mm wide and 4.5mm thick. It weighs 2.90g.

A flint core, probably dating from the Neolithic period. No cortex remains on this flint core, all of the vertical surfaces showing scars from the removal of a number of broad blades. At the top is probable evidence of platform preparation. The platform itself is irregular and there is a possiblity that some flakes have been struck across it. At it's base, the core tapers to a wedge-shaped point. The flint is dark grey in colour and has no discernable patination. The piece measures 51.2mm high, 48mm wide and weighs 86.85g.

A worked flint artefact which is probably a chipped axe or adze of late Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. A parallel for this piece was found at Glenarm, Antrim, and was dated to the 6th millenium to 4th millenium BC (Megaw & Simpson, 1979). The implement is unusual in that it is curved towards the narrow end. It seems unlikely, however, that this feature would have affected the performance of the tool, since the back of the axe would have not been used for chopping. The tool is roughly drop-shaped in plan, with slightly convex long sides and a rounded blade. It is thickest toward…

A flint scraper of probable Late Neoloithic to Early Bronze Age date. The scraper has been made from a broad, irregular, secondary flake. A clear bulb-of-percussion and rippling are visible on the ventral surface, across which there runs a natural flaw in the flint. Approximately half of the perimeter shows evidence of having been retouched. The semi-abrupt retouch is confined to two of the rounded corners, where a number of parallel flakes have been cut through the cortex on the dorsal surface of the flake; an area of abrupt retouch links these two corners. The flint is mid greyish…

A flint blade or microlith, dating from the Mesolithic period. The heavily patinated blade is of triangular section, flaring towards the distal end. Both the proximal and distal ends have been squared off, probably deliberately, in the former case resulting in the removal of the bulb-of-percussion. The sides have a serrated feel, possibly as a result of wear through use, and the lower part of one side has been blunted. The flint is a heavily patinated light grey. Length: 36.4mm; width: 9.9mm; thickness: 2.4mm; weight: 0.83g.
