One is the proximal end, one medial and the last is the distal end of a blade. One has a creamy patina and the other two have a light creamy-grey patina. These objects dates to the Late Mesolithic-Early Neolithic. 2) Blade length 27mm, width 14mm, thickness 5mm. The dorsal is covered by 60% cortex and one arise, soft hammered bulb on the ventral. A good example of a late Neolithic to early Bronze Age 'horseshoe' type flint scraper. From the flat platform area at the top, the sides angle downwards, creating a roughly trapezoidal top section; the lower two thirds of the implement have rounded edges. The surface of the tool is convex and has been extensively worked. Several vertical and angled flake removal scars mark a central ridge from which radiate downwards several other scars. The majority of narrow scars are concentrated around the bottom end of the tool, although there is evidence of finer retouch and grinding around al…

A good example of a flint 'thumbnail' type scraper of late Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. At the top, the implement retains a portion of the flat core platform. From here the sides angle downwards and outwards, extending into a rounded bottom edge. The upper surface of the tool is convex, having been formed by the removal of a radiating pattern of narrow flakes. The majority of retouch is to the distal and right hand (as you look at it) edges. The reverse is flat and the bulb-of-percussion has been removed. The flint is light to mid grey in colour and has little surface patinat…

A flint End scraper of early Neolithic date. The implement has been made from a large, thick, broad flake of roughly rectangular form. At one of the two narrow ends the tool retains a portion of the flat core platform. The convex upper surface of the tool has been formed by the removal of six long flakes, scars for which remain. Most of the retouch is to the angled and rounded end, where there are much smaller flake removal scars and fine retouch along the edge. The lower halves of the two long sides have also been subject to the removal of fine chippings, which has created serrated…

A triangular flint scraper of probable late Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. No exact parallel could be found for this piece and, although its form can be compared with that of some arrowheads of the period, it would appear to be too large to have performed this function. The tool has been made from a broad flake. The convex upper surface has been formed by the removal of both broad and narrower flakes, which are aligned in several different directions, but mostly radiate outwards from the centre, angling downwards to the edges. All three sides show signs of having been finely re…

Flint snapped end scraper, semi-circular in plan, triangular in section and in profile. The proximal end and both sides of the dorsal face have been unimarignally retouched. There is also a nick in the right edge of the dorsal face, but this is probably due to damage and not deliberate. The scraper may have been broken through use if enough pressure was applied to shear it off from the other half that was still held in the haft. Alternatively, it may have been broken since being deposited through coming into contact with agricultural machinery. See CORN-2286F2 and CORN-24A3D6 for si…

Flint leaf-shaped arrowhead, lozenge-shaped in plan, profile and triangular in section. The arrowhead has been worked on all margins of the dorsal face, but has been more extensively worked towards the distal end, particularly along the left margin. The proximal end has been waisted to be better used for hafting, and has been broken off above the bulb of percussion, on the ventral face. The flint is a grey brown colour and translucent, and was probably knapped from a local beach pebble. The length to breadth ratio is about 3:2. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 14…

Flint backed side scraper, semi-circular in plan and trapezoidal in profile and section. The scraper has been unifacially reworked on the right edge of the dorsal face, from the distal to the proximal end, and naturally truncated on the left edge where cortex remains from the original edge of the flint pebble. The ventral face retains the bulb of percussion at the proximal end. The flint is a mottled light grey to brown colour, made from a local beach pebble, with the orignal cortex remaining along the left edge of the dorsal face, from the distal to the proximal end. Flint waisted end and side scraper, almost oval in plan, trapezoidal in profile and triangular in section. The distal end and the lateral margins have been unimarginally retouched on the dorsal face. The proximal end has been snapped off at the base of the bulb of percussion. The flint is a mottled light to dark grey colour, probably made from a local beach pebble. There is a thin sliver of cortex running from the medial ridge to the left edge of the dorsal face at the distal end, suggesting that the scraper was made from a secondary flake. The length to breadth ratio is almost 6:5…

Flint borer or piercer, with the spurred end to the left side of the distal end, looking at the dorsal face. The borer is 'P'-shaped in plan, lozenge-shaped in section and triangular in profile. The borer has been unimarginally retouched on the left margin of the dorsal face, to create the spur, and the left margin of the ventral face, on the other side of the spur.
