This double ended scraper has been made on a flake from dark brown flint with a rough nodular cortex. The ventral face has some rough cortex and no retouch. The dorsal face has had a vertical flake taken from its left margin and its cortex undisturbed except at the ends. The distal end has long semi abrupt retouch to create a blunt edge. The retouch at the proximal end is invasive, to create another blunted edge. Bond 2004 illustrates a similar piece on Page 151 Fig 5.135 No 125. which he puts in the Early Bronze Age.

This a multi platformed core with irregular flake removals giving a sharp and denticulated edge to the platform.. It is made from pebble flint and still has a secondary amount of cortex remaining. It is a fresh piece with some flakes still adhering. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 180, fig.74, No.5 which is dated to the Bronze Age.

Knife. Trapezoidal in plan. The bulb and platform have been removed from the ventral face and the is retouch at the proximal end. On the dorsal face the proximal end has been invasively retouched. The central sections of the lateral edges have been semi abruptly retouched. Cortex remains at the distal end on the left margin running from the edge to the medial ridge. The distal end has been deliberately snapped and there are use wear marks on the snapped end. Made from nodular flint. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 171, Fig 72, No 8 which dates to the Bronze Age.

Translucent dark grey flint making a barbed and tanged flint arrowhead, triangular in plan and lozenge shaped in profile and section. The arrowhead has been invasively retouched throughout on both the dorsal and ventral face (bifacially) with one short barb (the other having been broken or snapped off), that does not extend to the length of the central tang, but is instead at an oblique angle to the tang. The tang appears to display evidence of semi abrupt retouch. Nice piece of work, Where the right barb should be is a clean break, with the edges still appearing sharp, probabley p…

The ventral face has retouch at the distal end. The dorsal face has abrupt retouch on the left side and long, semi-abrupt, scaled retouch on the right margin with a slight notch below the medial point. The piece has been snapped at its proximal end. The flint is dark brown in colour with tertiary cortex but was probably derived from a local beach pebble. Bond 2004 illustrates a side scraper with notch on page 151 Fig.5.135. which he places in the Early Bronze Age.

A flake core worked two thirds way around a single platform on a mid grey cream flecked chert pebble of about 60 mm diameter. Some wide flakes have been detached but progress has been stopped by line of similar step fractures which go nearly all around the worked platform edge. The inability to prevent this by better preparation may indicate a later style than practised in the Neolithic. Butler(2005) illustrates a single platform core hampered by step fractures on page 180, fig.74,2.

Flint pebble scraper, roughly plano-convex in plan and meniscus shaped in profile. The distal end has been retouched. There are three indentations on the dorsal side from possible use as an anvil. The ventral side has gloss in the medial section. The flint is a mottled grey with cream cortex covering over half of the surface area. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 151, Fig. 5.135, No. F. 111 which is illustrated to the Bronze Age period.

A single platform flake core on a mottled grey brown flint with cream flecks and a large quartzy inclusion. The gaps between the flake ridges where they meet the platform edge have been deeply abraded giving a scalloped platform plan. This may have isolated the individual platforms for a set of crested removals which was however not attempted.A similar scalloped platform core is illustrated by Butler(2005) on page 180, fig.74,2.

A soft hammered short flake from a cortical platform of a brown flint pebble. The dorsal surface carries 2 sinuous converging flake scars and the distal end is terminated by a hinge fracture from the opposite direction. The left margin is semi-abruptly edged on its dorsal side and this continues from the medial to the distal on the ventral side, ending in a small notch. The right margin has a short untidy length of semi-invasive retouch. The indistinct preform and basic retouch suggest Later Prehistoric work. A triangular section flake of grey-brown flint with pointed ends and indistinct or converging ripples. There is incipient patination which on this site suggests older Mesolithic material but is not conclusive as individual pieces may vary. This shape of flint is found on old flint land-surfaces as a natural 'starch fracture'. Butler(2005),colour plate 7 illustrates one, but this example has slight crush damage at the proximal end as well as distal and nearby margin wear from use as a piercer or cutting tool. Experimentally it has been found that spindle shaped flints like this can for…

A side scraper on a large, thick grey and cream primary flake from a pebble, mellowed by incipient patination. The flake has begun to patinate without any visible signs of use. It may have been struck in Later Mesolithic or Early Neolithic times, guessing from the surface condition of other local flint finds. The retouch through the patina is haphazard and looks like damage, but is all invasive or semi-invasive on the left dorsal margin and concentrated again on that margin on the ventral side. Here there are patches of similar diffuse gloss running from these scars so it appears that…

Scraper constructed on a broken flake. The bulb is still present on the ventral face. The right lateral edge is convexed. The left lateral edge has been broken but this occurred before the flint had been used as a scraper. The dorsal face has been semi abruptly retouched on the convexed left lateral edge. The straight distal end shows that the knapping occurred after the flake had been broken. The break on the right lateral edge runs from the proximal to distal end. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 151, Fig 5.135, F136 which dates to the Early Bronze Age.
