Three flint scrapers (Neolithic - Bronze Age). Of these, two (the smaller two) have retouch along 90% of the remaining edge, the third has retouch along one edge only. Two have a white patina and these also have cortex present (one on the right side and one on the butt) and the other is a pale-dark grey flint. All are incomplete with modern edge damage. Dimensions: scraper 1: length: 46.13mm width: 36.30mm thickness: 7.18mm weight: 16.59g; scraper 2:length: 34.27mm width: 19.34mm thickness: 14.79mm weight: 8.64g; scraper 3: length:16.06 mm width: 26.15mm thickness: 7.22mm weight: 3.86g.

A Mesolithic-Neolithic backed blade. Formed on a broadly triangular cross section flake, the material is dark grey with spots of light patination. The ventral face has a shallow bulb of percussion. Half of the ventral surface has the characteristic ripples running down the full length of the blade. The dorsal face has a pair of converging flat ridges that combine into a single flat ridge running to the distal end. The concave upper edge of the blade has abrupt retouch, producing a crushed like edge, perhaps for comfort in use. The convex cutting edge has Semi-…

A Mesolithic tranchet axe 'Thames pick'. There is crude flake removal on the dorsal face. There is a prominent rib down the center of the convex dorsal face flattening at the distal end. The ventral face is generally flat but with a tranchet blow across the flint at the distal end. The axe is widest at near the distal end, tapering sharply on the dorsal face. There is a long, shallow taper down the mid-rib on the dorsal face toward the proximal end. The rib curves away from the center at the proximal end. The proximal end is angled with a long platform. The edges are worke…

The flint has been bifacially worked. The tip of the is worked and rounded. The butt is flat. The edges are generally straight and parallel, however, one edge is curved toward the butt end. The dorsal face is convextly curved. The ventral face is flat.

A Mesolithic Thames Valley tranchet axehead. A flaked core tool of broadly rectangular shape and asymmetrical profile formed from a light grey flint nodule interspersed with large patches of cortex. The dorsal face is convexly curved with an uneven ridge. The ventral face is flatter with a more even ridge. The long edges are roughly parallel with the narrowed relatively flat blade. The butt is slightly narrower than the body and is rounded. Both the dorsal and ventral faces are crudely worked across the body. Patchy iron staining covers both faces.

A Mesolithic Thames Valley pick. The tool is broadly rectangular in shape; being formed from a long white and brown patinated flint nodule which has been shaped into a crudely lozenge sectioned implement. The long edges are roughly parallel with the blade being rounded and thinner in section whilst the butt tapers slightly. Both the ventral and dorsal faces have a central ridge / spine running longitundinally along the body. The ventral ridge is more defined that the dorsal ridge. This ridge has been formed during the crude knapping and part of the ventral side is smooth. The bla…

A flint scraper of probably dating to the Mesolithic period (c.9000-3450 BC). The scraper has been formed from a tertiary light grey flint flake. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross-section. The ventral face has a flat striking platform at the proximal end with a shallow bulb of percussion. The dorsal face has one prominent central ridge. There is short, low-anlge retouch on all sides of the flint as well as a couple of small flakes removed from the dorsal face.

A small flint bladelet of later prehistoric date, probably dating from c. 7000 - 3000 BC (Mesolithic/Neolithic). The flake is made from a light grey flint which has small areas of iron staning on the dorsal surface. The flake is incomplete and is missing the proximal end with the platform and bulb. Lines of percussion are visible on the ventral surface. There is some crude, hasty retouch on the left dosal edge. This flake forms part of an assemblage of flint artefacts of later prehistoric date.

A collection of eight later prehistoric blades and bladelet flakes, probably dating from c. 7000 - 2400 BC (Mesolithic to Neolithic). The blades have all been made on a mottled grey flint; seven are tertiary flakes while on is secondary with a very small area of retouch on the distal tip. None of the blades are retouched. These objects form part of an assemblage of flint artefacts of later prehistoric date.

A collection of six later prehistoric flakes, probably dating from c. 7000 - 1400 BC (Mesolithic to Middle Bronze Age). The flakes are all water worn and all but two have areas of cortex remaining (between 10-50%). The flakes have all been made on a mottled mid grey flint. There is no retouch and most of the flakes display modern (water-rolled?) damage. These flakes form part of an assemblage of flint artefacts of later prehistoric date.

A later prehistoric flake, probably dating from c. 4000 - 2200 BC (Neolithic period). The form of the flake is similar to later Neolithic fabricators however the retouch is quite fresh and cuts through the surface patina on both dorsal and ventral surfaces (Alison Roberts Ashmolean Museum, pers. comm). This suggests a more modern date for the retouch. The flake has been made on a mottled mid grey flint with approximately 25% cortext remaining on the dorsal surface. This flake forms part of an assemblage of flint artefacts of later prehistoric date.
