A flint tool, taking the form of a serrated blade, probably dating from the Late Mesolithic to the Neolithic period, c. 7000-2351 BC. The blade is made from a tertiary flake of mid grey flint with a band of darker grey cutting diagonally through it. It is an elongated leaf shape in plan, and is slightly concave on one side and convex on the other. The dorsal face has a ridge running lengthwise slightly off centre.

A piece of Neolithic debitage, possibly indicating blade production dating to, c. 4000-2400 BC.
The object is worked from a tertiary flake of light grey flint with occasional medium grey patches. The flake is sub-triangular in plan and sub-triangular to trapezoidal in cross section. At least four negative removal scars are present on the dorsal face, some running in a linear fashion parallel to each other. The ventral face is almost perfectly flat. The longest side of the triangle has possible retouch, suggesting it may have been used as a scraping …

The tool is made made from a tertiary flake of light gray flint with a glossy patina. The flint is leaf shaped, with a sharp tapered point that widens to a more rounded blunt opposite end. It is a long oval shape in cross section. There is a short, stepped, abrupt retouch around the point. There is a small striking platform and ripple marks running up from this and the dorsal face has a central ridge runnin…

One flake of flint debitage of prehistoric date.
The piece is a tertiary piece of flint with a semi-glossy patina that is mostly a dark grey brown colour with one lighter off white patch. The flake is sub-triangular in plan with irregular edges. The piece has at one earlier flake removals on its dorsal surface while the reverse has none. At the proximal end of the ventral surface a meidum bulb of percussion and an eraillure scar are visible, as are some medium conchoidal ripples close to the distal end. The striking platform also survives. There is a hinge fracture at t…

Object type: GUNFLINT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete knapped gunflint from a flintlock musket of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1600 - 1900.
The gunflint is rectangular in plan and sub-trapezoidal in cross-section. Like all gunflints, it is wedge-shaped, though this example is not as wide as most. The blade appears to have undergone a small amount of semi-abrupt retouching on the dorsal side. At the far end from the blade, sub-parallel lines may indicate where this gunflint was snapped off from a longer length of flint. There is also some rippling on the distal face.
The flint has a glossy su…

The arrowhead is made from a secondary flake of flint that is a yellow and black in colour. Thin pebble cortex is present on c. 10% of one face that is off white in colour. Almost the entire arrowhead survives barringone side of the barbs. Both chip in one side has the same patination as the rest of the arrow indicating the damage occurred a long time ago, possibly before its deposition. Each surface is covered in scaled retot…
