A Prehistoric burnt flint flake. There are no signs of retouch but modern damage to the edges. The surface is white and cracked consistant with burning. The flint has some rust spots on it suggesting it originated in the Chilterns.

A modestly retouched flint flake of general prehistoric date, but probably Neolithic or Bronze Age in date (c. 4000-1400 BC). Plano-convex in form, the dorsal surface has a single ridge running from just behind the distal point to the proximal end. The ventral surface is smooth apart from a modest percussion wave and some slight flaking. There are signs of retouch to both the left and right hand distal edges. This implement is modestly worked, sufficient to make it practically useful. The surface is a mottled grey with inclusions and ferrous like staining, some of the crazing/chips…

The flake technology employed suggests a date between the Late Neolithic (c.2500-2100 BC) through into the Bronze Age (c. 2100-800 BC), when generally flint working skills rapidly declined. This assemblage weighs a total of 82.4gms.
