A complete flint gunflint dating to the post-medieval period. The gunflint is rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in section with broad flakes removed from the dorsal side and with short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect trimming its edges. Flintlock guns were in use in France by c. AD 1600 and it is likely that this example dates from c. AD 1650 - 1850.

The wedge end of the gunflint is completely retouched, however the dorsal back surface is unworked. Gunflint like these are known from both English and later American Civil War sites and are thought to have been issued during the AD 1650-1660s, possibly alo…

A flint flake fragment with extensive edge damage. Although this flake looks a bit like the beginnings of a tanged and barbed arrowhead, its condition and construction suggest that it has actually been produced and used as a gun flint, therefore dating to the Post-medieval period.
