This is a small secondary flake, possibly a flint scraper of Neolithic origin. The piece has a diffuse bulb of percussion to the ventral side and some very fine parallel direct re-touch to the rounded edge beneath the cortex. The dorsal side has remaining cortex with negative scars running off the single dorsal ridge. There are a number of conchoidal scars with re-working to the convex edge that cause the piece to resemble a denticulate side scraper. The piece has a mottled dark to light brown colour and a number of pale cream inclusions.

Object type: SICKLE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Powys
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Incomplete fragment from the tip of a knife or more probably sickle knapped from a light grey coloured flint probably dating to the later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age periods (2500-1800 BC). The flake is broadly sub-triangular with a bowed curved edge; it is lentoid in cross section. Both the ventral and dorsal faces of the flake have been reworked. This secondary reworking is best seen on the curved edge where detailed neat small flakes have been removed by indirect retouch and pressure flaking. On the dorsal face this working extends up to the mid point of the blade, with a series o…

Object type: SICKLE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Powys
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Tertiary waste of mid grey coloured flint probably dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age period (3500 – 1800 BC). The flake is irregular being broadly sub-triangular with a bowed curved edge. Clear secondary pressure flaking facets can be seen on the dorsal face along one edge. The purpose of this flaking is unclear and it is likely that this flake has been removed from a much larger tool, possibly a plano-convex knife or sickle. The flake measures: 15.6mm length, 13.2mm width is 6.1mm thick and weighs 1.27 grams

Tertiary waste of mid grey / white coloured flint probably dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age period (3500 – 1800 BC). The flake is irregular being broadly sub-triangular with a bowed curved edge. Clear secondary pressure flaking facets can be seen on almost the entire dorsal face. The ventral face is unworked. The purpose of this flaking is unclear and it is likely that this flake has been removed from a much larger tool either to repair it or rework it. The type off tool is unclear, possibly a plano-convex knife or sickle. The flake measures: 13mm length, 15.5mm width …

Tertiary waste of mid grey coloured flint probably dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age period (3500 – 1800 BC). The flake is irregular with a bowed curved edge. The flake has been heavily reworked although the type of artefact is difficult to ascertain. The artefact type is probably best described as a scraper, although it is a particularly poor example. One edge has been heavily reworked with multiple parallel sided facets. The curved edge also has reworking although this abrupt flaking with a hard a hammer in most places. The ventral face is also flaked but less intensively…

Object type: SIDE SCRAPER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Powys
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Small flint waste flake / debitage probably dating from the Neolithic period (2900 - 2100 BC). The flake is broadly oval in both plan and profile. It has number of regular facets caused by flaking on the upper (dorsal) face of the flake. The lower (ventral) face has very little evidence of flaking. There is no evidence of cortex (the rough outer skin of the flint nodule) present on either face. This suggests that this flake comes from the tertiary (or final) phase of tool production. The waste flake has been reworked to form a side-scraper of later Neolithic date. This has been achieve…

Small flint waste flake / debitage probably dating from the Neolithic period (2900 - 2100 BC). The flake is broadly D shaped in plan and sub-rectangular in profile. It has an unusual smooth surface on the upper (dorsal) face of the flake; this is possibly due to the flake being worked from an irregular piece of waste. The lower (ventral) face has very little evidence of flaking. There is no evidence of cortex (the rough outer skin of the flint nodule) present on either face. This suggests that this flake comes from the tertiary (or final) phase of tool production. The waste flake has b…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Powys
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Relatively small flint thumbnail scraper (side and end) of probable later Neolithic or very early Bronze Age date (2900 - 1800 BC). The scraper is formed from the end of a blade like tertiary flake. It is broadly rectangular in plan and an irregular oval in cross section. It measures 17.2mm length, 17.1mm width, is 7.6mm thick and weighs 2.81 grams. The scraper has significant retouch applied to the upper (dorsal) face. This secondary working is limited to the sides / edges and the base. The top is unworked consisting of a snapped edge. The reworking of the edges is neat consisting…

A small struck flint scraper of Later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2900 - 1800 BC). The scraper is sub circular in plan and semi circular in cross section. The dorsal (upper) face demonstrates a significant number of flake scars, indicating that this piece has been heavily worked / reworked. The ventral surface is smooth with the remains of the bulb of percussion and a few conchoidal ripples. The edges have been damaged by movement in the soil and there are a series of irregular uncontrolled flake scares. The scraper measures 19.75mm length, 17.79mm width, 5.57mm thick and weig…

Two struck flint scrapers of Later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2900 - 1800 BC). The scrapers are sub circular in plan and oval in cross section. The dorsal (upper) faces demonstrates a significant number of flake scars, indicating that these pieces have been heavily worked / reworked. The ventral surfaces are smooth with the remains of the bulb of percussion and a few conchoidal ripples. The edges have been damaged by movement in the soil and there are a series of irregular uncontrolled flake scares. One of the scrapers has been broken approximately in half. Both would best be…

Relatively small flint thumbnail scraper (side and end) of probable later Neolithic - Early Bronze Age (3000-1800 BC), The flint is a pale brown pink colour with small a amount of white cortex on the upper / dorsal surface. There are signs of retouching on the edges of three sides - this retouch is best described as short sub-parallel, and abrupt. The scraper appears to be highly polished that suggests that it is a reworked flake from a larger implement, possibly an axe head. The scraper measures 20mm length, 14.2mm width and 6.5mm thick; it weighs 2.10 grams
