Object type: END SCRAPER
Broad period: PALAEOLITHIC
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint end-scraper made on a thick flake of a brown-orange flint. The scraper is sub-square in plan and broadly rectangular in profile, although the large bulb is retained on the reverse. There has been some recortication of the scraper, with this extending over the hard hammer retouching on the right side of the distal end. There are more modern removals (cutting through the patina of the recortication) to the left hand edge. This piece is hard to date as its execution is generally undiagnostic, however it is potentially Palaeolithic (c. 450,000-10,000 BC).

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: PALAEOLITHIC
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete flint bladelet with a rubbed end dating to the Late Upper Palaeolithic or early Mesolithic period, c. 40,000 - 7,000 BC. The bladelet has been made from a tertiary flake of a mottled dark brown flint. Part of the platform has been retained and this also appears to have been rubbed, as has the distal end. There are thin flake scars over the dorsal surface. There is possible ancient reutilisation damage on the left hand edge.

A flint piercer made on a bladelet dating to the Late Upper Palaeolithic to Mesolithic period (c. 20,000-4,000 BC). The piercer has been made on a tertiary flake of a mottled orange-brown flint. The bulb is retained as is the small fragment of the platform. There are two flake scars on the dorsal surface. The lower half of the left hand edge of the dorsal side has been worked with soft hammer precussion, becoming more invasive towards the tip of the piercer, which has detatched, possibly during production but potentially after deposition.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A damaged flint flake of later prehistoric date (probably Mesolithic to Neolithic date, c.10,000 - 2,400 BC). The flake has been made from a tertiary striking of a mottled light grey flint using hard hammer percussion. The bulb and platform are present. The flake has a hinge fracture on the right edge, and there is weathering and modern damage over all surfaces. The patina suggests the flake has been on the surface and exposed to the elements for some time.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete flint retouched flake of Mesolithic to Neolithic date (10,000 - 2,400 BC). The flake has been made from a secondary mottled dark grey flint using hard hammer percussion. The bulb and platform are absent. There are three previous thin bladelet removals on the dorsal surface, and right lateral edge shows some soft-hammer retouching. There is also modern damage evident and the patina suggests the flake has been on the surface and exposed to the elements for some time.

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A broken and then repurposed Neolithic flaked and polished flint axe, dating to c.4000-2350 BC.
The surviving axe is sub-rectangular in form with a crescent polished blade edge on one side from which its two long edges extend. The first of these edges expands outwards for about one quarter of its length. The other expands for about one third of its length. After these points each edge narrows to and then converge to a rounded point.
The axe's surface is polished smooth between the crescent end and the point at which it starts to narrow in width. The remaining portion of the…

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete flint barbed and tanged arrowhead dating to the Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age c.2500-1500 cal BC.
The arrowhead is made from a tertiary flake of flint that is a matte white colour. Approximately two thirds of the arrowhead survives. This consists of its pointed tip, most of one of its barbs the tip of which has been snapped off, and most of its tang which appears to be narrow. the remaining barb and part and part of the body of the arrowhead are lost to a break which has the same patination as the rest of the arrow indicating this occurred a long time ago, possibl…

Object type: CORE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A rejuvenation flake from a flint core, possibly dating to the Neolithic date (4000-2400 BC)
The core fragment is from a tertiary flake and is covered mostly in a matte white patina with occasion mid grey inclusions (c. 2.5mm diameter) and orange iron staining.
The striking platform for the flake survives as does a shallow bulb of percussion although no ripples emanating from this are visible, potentially suggesting the use of a soft hammer. The distal end of this flake terminates in a rounded hinge fracture. The dorsal surface shows at least six flake removal scars coming f…
