Object type: HANDAXE
Broad period: PALAEOLITHIC
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Knapped flint handaxe. Probably Acheulian (mode 2) dating to the lower palaeolithic. Length: 119mm, width: 75mm; thickness: 42mm; mass: 294g. Bifacially worked with a tapering, pointed tip. The butt is angled at about 45 degrees when the handaxes is viewed in profile, with a large negative flake scar visible. The flint is heavily patinated (including the butt), and off white/light grey in colour. A less heavily patinated, grey coloured surface has been exposed near to the butt where there has been some more recent damage. The surface is approximately 10% cortex, mostly on one side.

Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A thick flint debitage blade, of probable Mesolithic date, 10,000 BC - 4000 BC. It is formed on a tertiary thick blade of opaque mottled tan and brown coloured flint with a small area of cortex on the distal end. It is sub-rectangular in plan, with a slight longitudinal curve. The dorsal face has a double arris. There is a significant amount of edge damage, but it does not appear to be organised retouch. It is 83.1mm long, 27.3mm wide and 13.5mm thick. 38.4g. The surfaces are worn and the flint may have been tumbled in a watercourse.

County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An almost complete Neolithic flint polished axehead dating c. 4000-2200 BC.
The axehead has a lenticular cross section with flake removals evident on both faces, but the surface appears only partially polished. Partial polished surfaces remain on both sides, on the lower face near the cutting edge on one side; and only on a narrow strip running up the centre on the opposing face. There is battering damage on the cutting edge which is completely missing, the remaining surfaces are covered in flake removals with worn arises and red staining on both sides.&n…

See below a flake assemblage with parallel flake scars on the dorsal faces suggests a probable Early Bronze Age date, though no.1, if not a fabricator could be later in date, as it is similar to middle Bronze Age rods at Grimes Graves.
1: A bifacially worked snapped 'rod' with plemtiful, steep retouch which is relatively crude along its edges. Heavily patinated and iron stined grey flint, measuring 47mm in length and 20mm in width and 13mm in thickness.
2: Small narrow blade with parallel blade scars on dorsal face. Heavily patinated length 59mm, width 13.5mm, probably Mesoli…

1: A squat flake, patinated on one side with edge retoucjh including small notch, later prehistoric in date.
2: Partly patinated squat oval flake with retouch around distal end, possibly crude scraper, probably later prehistoric in date.
3: Sub-square thick snapped flake in black flint, multi-directional flake removal and crude edge retouch, possibly later Bronze Age or post medieval gunflint.
4: Flake with hinge fracture and some edge retouch, black flint, parallel flake scars on dorsal face, possibly late Bronze Age/ Iron Age or pst medieval gun flint.
