Flint scatter reported anonymously to CPAT. The majority came from this location with single flakes also being recovered from SO19642491 and SO19742491. The assemblage includes a barbed and tanged arrowhead measuring 22mm x 20mm found on 17 August 2002, the rest (some 18 pieces) were found during 2003, all the flints have a brown patina and at least 2 have cortex remaining. From the finder's/reporter's photograph the assemblage appears to contain at least one thumbnail scraper, possibly a second and possible pointed borers and/or utilised flakes

A complete flint discoidal knife of Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (3500 BC - 1500 BC. Length 109.0mm, width 86.0mm and 17.0mm thick. Weight 188.12g. The implement, a large discoidal knife, is sub-oval in plan and lentoid in transverse cross-section. It is made of flint which is grey patinated and the flaking covers the whole of each face. The edges of each shorter side have been finely polished. The implement is undamaged and was found on the surface. It is in a remarkably good condition. This is most probably the remains of a thumbnail scraper from the Neolithic period. There is some remaining evidence of a platform at the proximal end. The dorsal surface carries several ridges and negative scars. The ventral surface shows limited evidence of a diffuse bulbar scar. One edge appears to have been re-touched but due to the poor quality of the flint this is not definite. The material is dark brown with small light grey inclusions throughout. There is one very small piece of surviving cortex.

This flint object has the characteristics of a Neolithic knapped tool, probably an edge scraper. The proximal end has a small percussion platform, a percussion bulb and a single bulbar scar with fine radiating fissures running down the ventral side. In side view, the tool has a distinct conchoidal curve, from where it has been struck from the core. There is no evidence of rippling on the ventral surface. This flint object is probably a truncated Neolithic blade. When you run a finger tip up the ventral surface, there is a diffuse yet distinct bulbar scar, indicating the distal end. The dorsal surface has a single distinct lateral edge. There is little sign of any re-touch however, there is on close examination, some edge feathering and adjacent conchoidal scarring (nibbling?) present on the edge at the probable break point. This is a worked piece of flint, probably Neolithic in date. It seems probable that the bulb of percussion has been worked away by steeply re-touched bulbar scarring that has produced a marked point, perhaps intended as an awl? This work may have been a secondary use of the piece. The cross sectional shape is that of a lozenge and it is bi-facially worked with many conchoidal fractures to both of the long sides. A small fragment of flint that has evidence of having been worked by man, probably during the Neolithic. It may be a fragment of a larger implement. The ventral side has clear ripples running away from the now broken edge. On close inspection, the 'point' (partly missing) has good parallel bifacial re-touch. The dorsal surface is marked by lighter and slightly coarser inclusions to one side running the length of the artefact. The material is a light brown flint.

This is a lithic blade and most probably Neolithic in origin. As the length of this artefact is more than twice the width, with the sides more or less parallel, it may logically be called a blade. Typical of lithic blades, the cross section is triangulate. In side profile the blade has a slightly crescentic form. This is a small worked flake forming a double side scraper, probably of Neolithic origin. The ventral surface is marked by a distinct bulb of percussion and the resultant 'ripple' effect running to the distal end. There is a fragment of cortex remaining on the proximal end. The dorsal surface has pronounced divergent dorsal scar with an area of percussion ripple from previous removal. Large irregular much weather nodule of flint, probably used as a raw (although poor quality) flint source for making artefacts in the prehistoric period. The outer edge is covered with cortex (at least 60%) which seems to be derived from chalk. The flake scars present are uncontrolled and this would suggest that this piece comes from one end of a nodule which has been discarded due to its poor state. The noule measures 83.9mm length, 63.3mm width is 4.1mm thick and weighs 184.64 grams.

A long thin lithic implement, probably a proto awl of Mesolithic to Neolithic date (4000 - 3000 BC). It does demonstrate some uncontrolled fractures, probably due to movement in the soil. The flint is a light grey with patches of white running through. It may have suffered some patination due to soil conditions. It is roughly triangular in shape, narrowing to a point. Little evidence of retouch is present along the edges of the tool. It measures 46.33mm length, 18.11mm width, 9.71mm thick and weighs 6.0 grams.

This is a probable Neolithic flint scraper. The ventral side has a very clear bulb of percussion with a pronounced cone emanating from the point of percussion on the striking platform. Ripples then radiate across the whole ventral surface. The ventral side also exhibits direct normal retouch down both left and right edges. A knife or scraper made from a flint flake of roughly triangular cross-section. It has a small bulb of percussion beneath the striking platform and the proximal end appears to have been worked to form the curved part of the cutting/scraping edge. It also appears to have been left with a sharp point. The ventral surface is gently undulating. The dorsal surface has a predominant ridge with dorsal scarring to one side. The convex cutting/scraping edge has evenly spaced parallel re-touch. The material appears to be a pale grey and brown banded flint.

A large scraper formed from a broad / wide blade knapped from a pale grey coloured flint . The ventral face shows a bulb of percussion and series of choncoidal ripples. The dorsal face has multiple flake facets / scars. Three of the sides have short abrupt retouching whilst the other has a shallower angled retouch. This suggests it may be a combination tool used for cutting and scraping.
