Complete handaxe in rolled condition, of Wymer, J. J. (1999) type E now patinated orange, the recent chips and other damage shows the underlying flint to have originally been tones of grey. A  Lower Palaeolithic bifacial flint handaxe of Acheulean tradition dating to c. 500,000 to 250,000 BC. This is a 'ficron' type handaxe which belongs to the Middle Acheulean tradition. An incomplete and rolled flint handaxe of lower Paleolithic date (500,000-180,000 BC). The tool is bifacially worked and missing its tip but was likely of Ficron type (Wymer (1999) Type M). The tool is triangular in shape, with a tapering profile and plano convex cross section. One side retains around 40% cortex and the surface is patinated / recorticated to an orange brown from prolonged deposition in iron-rich gravels.

A complete, tertiary flake/tool, semi-hard hammer struck (pronounced bulb of percussion, no bulbar scar), of sub-trapezoidal section. Small, incomplete handaxe of Wymer, J. J. (1999) type E/?J, of light grey/brown misty patination over a dark chocolate brown colour, the point has been broken recently at an angle revealing that the flint was originally dark brown, some of the high points to the flake scars are iron stained from contact with agricultural machinery. All surfaces have been modified by flaking so no original surfaces of the “blank” nodule or thermal fracture this handaxe was made from remain. Lower Palaeolithic, 600,000 to 250,000 BC.

A small, heavily rolled and water-worn flint handaxe of lower Paleolithic date (500,000-180,000 BC). The tool is 61.6mm in length and most likely of Wymer (1999) Type K. The tool is bifacially worked from a brown flint using soft hammer flaking with a lenticular cross section and a dark brown to orange patination typical of a period of prolonged deposition in iron-rich gravel deposits. Barnacles and evidence of prolonged marine exposure are also evident.

A large and heavily recorticated flint blade which has been retouched along one side using long, low angle and semi abrupt scaled and stepped retouch. The other long edge retains cortex along its length; the distal end narrows to a square terminal with a hinge fracture. This is possibly identifiable as a backed blade of Final Late Upper Palaeolithic date (c. 13,000 BC) although such tools were produced throughout prehistory.

Lower Paleolithic flint Cordate (heart-shaped) handaxe of Butler mode 2 type J  dating c. 600,000-300,000 years ago. The handaxe has a light reddish brown colour and a pointed oval section.  Both faces are finished by shallow invasive flaking (soft hammer), with the planar face also having almost continuous finer edge retouch, in places giving a step-flaked edge.There is an imperfection in the flint near the base (a hollow filled with crystals) which has been used to create the notch typically seen on Cordate handaxes.
