An irregularly shaped flint flake, pale green in colour with cream inclusions. Numerous areas of retouch mostly on the dorsal surface but with one area on the ventral. Possibly a scraper but alternatively a borer of some sort, as suggested by a small retouched protrusion, but possibly both.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete Neolithic scraper made on a flake of mottled grey flint which is also partly comprised of a matt grey inclusion. The scraper is roughly triangular in shape and is gently domed in profile. The ventral surface is smooth with a distinctive, large flake scar (on the left hand side in the photo). The dorsal surface has 3 or 4 large flake scars and there are at least three areas of quite steep retouch on the edges. The flint is opaque. It is 31mm long, 27.5mm wide and 7mm thick. It weighs 7g.

A small chipped and polished Neolithic flint axehead with a sharp, curving blade and sides that taper towards the rounded butt, which has also been polished. In cross-section it is an irregular oval but with faceting where the chips haven't been polished out. The polishing is more pronounced towards the blade and butt. Complete but for 2 or 3 small chips out of the blade. The colour of the flint is mostly green (of several shades) but with patches of grey.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete late Neolithic oblique flint (ripple-flaked oblique) arrowhead. This arrowhead has been knapped from a fine good quality matt grey piece of flint. It is broadly sub-triangular in plan and lentoid in cross section; the tip, side barb and tang have all been lost; the breaks are recent and unabraded. The arrowhead has been knapped using a number of different techniques, including direct and indirect percussion, as well as being retouched using pressure / ripple / invasive flaking best caracterised as covering, parallel low angled retouch. This flaking is of the highest qual…

A flint scraper formed on a piece of secondary debitage / waste flake (from the second phase of tool making). The tool dates from the later Neolithic or possibly the Early Bronze Age periods (2900-2100 BC) and is formed from a squat oval flake of relatively high quality flint. In profile and in cross section it is D shaped. The ventral face shows conchoidal ripples a point and bulb of percussion . The base / distal end has a well prepared platform from which the flake has been removed. The dorsal face has a number of irregular and regular flake scars - as well as a single large area o…

Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD

A complete leaf shaped arrowhead dating to the early Neolithic period, (circa 3500-2500 BC). The arrowhead is lozenge (pointed oval) in shape and lentoid in cross section. The dorsal and ventral faces of the arrowhead have been extensively and delicately worked with neat well-formed pressure / ripple flakes. There are no visible signs of use. The flint is a poor quality mottled pale grey colour with fine orange veins passing through it. The selection of the flint with this distinctive vein could represent a deliberate aesthetic choice. This example fits well with leaf shaped arrowhead…

Large flint core / primary flaked nodule of probable Neolithic date, The core is formed on a poor quality nodule of flint which has a large amount of cortex and dark grey coloured inclusions. The surface also has significant areas of multiple holes/depressions. The core has 2 primary bulbs of percussion and may have been discarded as being of too low grade for further working. A Neolithic date 2900 - 1800 BC may be suggested as similar dated debitage and tools have been found in the immidiate vicinity. The discovery of such large pieces of unworked / unprocessed flint is highly …

Five pieces of small flint debitage of probably Neolithic date. All the flakes show primary and secondary working. Four flakes are burnt and the largest piece appears to be polished which may indicate a discarded flake from a larger reworked tool, such as an axe or knife. A Neolithic date 2900 - 1800 BC may be suggested as similar dated debitage and tools have been found in the immidiate vicinity. The pieces measure 1. 11.7mm length, 11mm width, is 2.32mm thick and weighs 0.23 grams. 2. 17mm length, 12mm width, is 6.75mm thick and weighs 1.43 grams. 3. 19.43mm length,…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A small piece of tertiary flint debitage of either later Mesolithic or Neolithic date (6500-1800BC). The flake is very pale grey and has not been retouched to form a separate tool. It is possible that the flake is a small bladelet taken from a Mesolithic core - as all the working is in the same direction; although the piece is too small to be diagnostic. A Neolithic date 2900 - 1800 BC may be suggested as similar dated debitage and tools have been found in the immidiate vicinity. The flake measures 13.61mm length, 9.81mm width, is 2.04mm thick and weighs 0.26 grams.

Seven flakes of tertiary debitage (from the third / final phase of tool making) of Neolithic date (3500-2100 BC). The flakes are all struck on poor quality flint which varies in coarseness and colour, all being glacial or riverine derived, some possibly being chert rather than flint. None of the waste flakes have been reworked / retouched to form other artefacts such as scrapers. The dorsal faces of some of the flakes show ridges and flake scars, the reverse faces show conchoidal ripples. The flakes have a bulk weight of 34.67 grams
