Grey-brown flint with possibly marine derived ‘cortex’ possible backed blade. A narrow flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side and  a concave rippled ventral surface. Long angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect travels parallel to the long edge, and was perhaps followed by short abrupt retouch adjacent. The cortex, which may be marine derived, may have been retained to permit pressure to be brought to bear on what must have been an ephemeral cutting edge. Dark grey flint with re-formed cortex, core. A pyramidal core with long narrow parallel flakes removed by unidirectional working from a broad flat platform. The working was not carried all round the object. A dense milky patina has extended across all struck surfaces and may argue a subsequent long period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Where this appears on the Wolds it is a local environmental effect and is very common. However, such patination is rare in the assemblage presented from Scotter, so this object may have been imported, perhaps in gravel or with chalk used to mar…
