Two fragments of flintworking debris dating from the Neolithic period through to the Bronze age. One piece is sub-triangular in plan. The flint is 22.63 mm in width, 16.70 mm in length and 6.46 mm thick. The flint weights 1.8g. One side of the object is jagged and irregular with no evidence of working. The other side is smother with ripples and small bulbar scars suggesting this fragment has been flaked off the core. The other flint fragment is 12.67 mm wide, 13.67 mm long and 8.12 mm thick. This fragment weights 1.7 g. The flat side of this fragment does not show evidence of kn…

Record ID: SUSS-C44E13
Object type: WASTE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped flint waste flake dating to the Bronze Age, c. 2150-800 BC. The flake has a very large bulb of percussion and ripples on the ventral face; the dorsal face has three blade removals. There is a small area of possible retouch visible on the dorsal face, but the condition of the cherty flint makes the evaluation of this difficult and the extent of the possible retouch suggests that this flake was not used as a tool. It measures 59.5 mm long, 40.2 mm wide, 10.4 mm thick and weighs 25.61 grams.

A broken waste piece of near black Portland chert with tertiary cortex. It has been deliberately snapped from a longer tool with shallow retouch on the dorsal face. There is no use wear, which suggests that it was never used. There is no retouch on the ventral face.

Five large fragments of un-worked flint. Probably either un-worked raw product or naturally occurring flint. These have been recorded for the sake of completeness as they were collected along with the other material from the Wem area and that flint only occurs in riverine and glacial deposits in Shropshire. This is part of a larger flint assemblage from the Wem area. See records:
