A possible microdenticulate, probably of Mesolithic or Neolithic date, c. 11,000-2600 BC. Part of a larger assemblage of flint, see also: WILT-19B371; WILT-196E52; WILT-1940B2; WILT-19212E; WILT-185746; WILT-17D77C; WILT-17714B.
A bladelet of grey-brown flint with a diffuse bulb of percussion and the distal end lost to a break. Fine retouch has created a possible serated edge along the right edge of the dorsal face, with this partically destroyed by short, semi-abrubt retouch creating a shallow indentation, potentially related to microlith production.

Made on a secondary flake with a very small area of cortex remaining at the distal end. A very small remnant of the striking platform is visible at the proximal end. The bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples can be seen on the surface of the ventral face. The dorsal surface bears the scars of the removal of several previous longitudinal flakes or blades. The proximal end of the dorsal surface has been retouched by the removal of around eight or nine very small pressure…

Both side margins of the dorsal face have been retouched to produce a denticulated edge. The distal end has also been retouched, resulting in an edge which would be suitable for scraping. The tool is formed on a blade-like secondary flake of mottled light and dark grey flint and retains c.5% cortex around the platform on the proximal dorsal end. Flake scars on the dorsal surface show previous removals. The platform and bulb is retained; the distal end of the tool appears broken and there has been some attempt at reworking the broken distal end. The ventral face has retouch on its left margin at the upper distal third. On the dorsal face the upper right distal margin is finely serrated. This piece may ahve been hafted. The distal tip has been snapped. It may be described as a microblade saw.
The flint is translucent smokey brown in colour. It has only tertiary cortex, so its origin is uncertain, but it is likely to be from a local beach pebble.
Bond 2004 illustrates a similar piece on Page 116 Fig 5.100 No 5 and which he places in the later Mesolithic.

There are several small denticulations running from the proximal end of the dorsal face along the lower half of the right side. Along the left side a long, inwards curving spall has been removed. Together with two uneven, parallel flakes removed from the upper edge of the right side, this creates a point at the distal end. There are a few wide, parallel flaking scars on the dorsal face, creating a smooth surface. The flint is grey in colour with a slight milky patina. The bulb and butt are…
