A Mesolithic flint core, used for the production of blades and flakes dating to the period c.10,000-4000 BC. It is broadly conical in form. It has a single striking platform as flakes have been removed in the same direction, predominantly from one side. It exhibits five parallel negative flake scars from blade and flake removal. The core retains an area of cortex comprising c.

Sub-trapezoidal core in a slightly rolled condition, hard hammer struck from a small flattish nodule of mottled grey and black flint, with six flake scars to one face, and a further six to the other face, both faces retain small areas of thin, weathered grey cortex. All flake scars are now patinated translucent orange. A hairline crack runs from on face to the other and appears to have been present within the flint at the time of knapping. Lower Palaeolithic, 600,000 to 150,000 BC.

Discoidal core in rolled condition, all flake removals are hard hammer struck from a thermally (frost) fractured section of a larger nodule with thin, weathered grey cortex extant to the dorsal face, with four main flake scars, the ventral face has only two flakes removed, the natural fractures on this face are patinated orange, with all other flake scars patchily patinated yellow/orange, the recent damage to the edges show the original colour of the flint to be black and grey with lighter grey coarse inclusions. An irregularly shaped flint core dating to the later Neolithic to Bronze Age (c 3000-800 BC) struck from a dark grey to pale grey flint. One side of the core appears to have been the predominant platform although it is poorly prepared and damaged around the edge. There are a number of broadly aligned removal scars radiating from this surface, to create a triangular body to the core with a flat surface on one side which may represent a second striking platform. All removals appear to be from hard hammering, as is typical of flint implements of this late date (Butler, 2005: 179-181). No…

Slightly rolled, multi-platform core, all flakes are hard hammer struck from opportunistic platforms as the core reduces; -of mottled grey and black flint, now patchily patinated orange/yellow. Two areas of thin, weathered cortex remain, these roughly oppose each other and are the only indicator that the "blank" for this core was probably a flattish nodule. Slightly rolled "Chopper core", of Wymer. J,J (1999) type A, with flakes removed by hard hammer percussion, alternately flaked around the edge where the angles would allow, a thinly corticated "butt" at one end, leaving a small fossil cast/void and a concave hollow left unworked and avoided. Of mid to pale grey flint now patinated light orange from exposure to iron oxides from sands and gravels, the recent damage to the edges show the original colour of the flint.
