Dark blue-black flint with white surface staining, East Coast flint from Glacial Drift. Possibly Debitage as identified by finder; this reporter regards evidence for 'working' as natural damage. Flat ovate fragment of dark flint with chipping all around its edges. The rippling from these chips appears to run inwards from the edge of the object, and probably result from the object rolling in surf. A whitish surface deposit is interrupted by these scars; as this may be salt, this further suggests the object to have been exposed by recent coastal erosion, and the damage to be of recent…

The object tapers towards a thinner curved end, with casually executed flake removal at the mid point affording a grip for the thumb; the other end is flat, at a recent break. The upper and lower convex surfaces are lightly smoothed, probably by wear during use, though other flaking at the edges represents post-depositional damage. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2100-1500 BC. Length: 86mm, Width: 25.5mm, Thickness: 20mm, Weight: 53.56gms.

Object type: KNIFE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: East Riding of Yorkshire

White patinated flint possible knife, as identified by finder. Flake with a notch on either side, perhaps to assist hafting, and with long thin blade removal scars along two sides of a sub-triangular point. It seems that subsequent fine pressure flaking with a point has formed serrated edges at this end, though this is a feature which is more easily felt than seen. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2100-1500 BC. Length: 36.8mm, Width: 19.8mm, Thickness: 7.3mm, Weight: 4.68gms.
