Grey flint knife, as kindly identified by the finder. A thick oval flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and a bulbar ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch follows a curving edge; a chip was probably damage incurred in antiquity as orange staining from contact with gravels passes over the broken surface. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC Length: 42.5mm, Width: 38.4mm, Thickness: 14.4mm, Weight: 18.06gms

Pale grey flint with cortex possible knife fragment. A large flake with an apparently curved cutting edge, neatly truncated on one end where a flat and possibly smoothed surface of lentoid form appears. A large flake has been removed from behind the putative cutting edge by hard hammer strike from the dorsal aspect, possibly affording a thumb rest. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect appears to follow the curving edge, its progress marked by the removal of a pale patinated surface to reveal the pale grey flint below – though a similar colour change also appears …

Pale buff flint knife, as kindly identified by the finder. A curved triangular-section flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at the broader end of its ventral surface. Angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curving convex outer edge of the concavo-convex form. Dense creamy patina suggests the object has subsequently endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment; the tint of flint is revealed by a small chip at the narrow end. Pale cream-buff flint possible knife fragment. Sub-triangular flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and smooth across most of the ventral surface, save where interrupted by one long flake-removal scar. Short abrupt retouch or edge-on damage follows the longest edge. The straight upper edge [as illustrated] has the smooth edge of a positive hinge fracture on one side. Overall creamy patina and rust spotting may suggest the object was subsequently incorporated into gravel. Now smooth to the touch, probably due to water-rolling. Semi-translucent grey flint of good quality knife. Flake with a flat dorsal side and a bulb on the ventral, with one long edge formed by a positive hinge fracture. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect converts the hinge fracture to a cutting edge, whose use appears to have promoted the formation of conchoidal scars alongside it on the dorsal side. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 36.3mm, Width: 24.3mm, Thickness: 4.9mm, Weight: 4.12gms.

Grey flint with overall white patina knife. Oval-ended flake with broad parallel flake removal scars on its dorsal side and faintly rippled on the ventral. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect consolidated the cutting edge. As patina extends across a straight edge or back, the object is probably complete and as it was used. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 18.9mm, Width: 22.8mm, Thickness: 3.9mm, Weight: 1.93gms.

Pale buff flint with cortex and cloudy white patina patches knife. Flake with a single flake removed from its dorsal side and a prominent bulb on the ventral, both from hard hammer strike. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect interrupts the patina and forms a cutting edge along one curving side. Cortex is also removed along from the opposite edge; this and other chips which interrupt cortex or patina could have arisen fortuitously. Both episodes of deliberate working could be accommodated within the Neolithic period. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. …

Mottled pale grey flint knife fragment. Small oval-ended flake with three long parallel flakes removed from the dorsal side, a bulb of percussion on the ventral side, and with very short abrupt and probably pressure flaked retouch along a short [7mm] concave part of one side; the object has broken from a longer flake, though this may have occurred before the retouch facilitating continued use or reuse. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 18.1mm, Width: 16.9mm, Thickness: 3.3mm, Weight: 1.36gms.

Grey flint of good quality knife. Flake with broad flakes removed from its dorsal side and with a striking platform and prominent bulb on the ventral. Very short retouch along one side is executed from the dorsal aspect. The primary working is characteristic of hard hammer strike and the retouch of pressure flaking, while the complete lack of patina and sharp edges suggests incorporation in a sealed context shortly after deposition. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 22.8mm, Width: 23.7mm, Thickness: 6.8mm, Weight: 2.66gms.
