Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Lincolnshire

Mottled grey semi-translucent flint of high quality transverse arrowhead. Knapped flint transverse arrow head. A notched lozenge-shaped flint with long blade removal scars on what is taken to be the dorsal side hammer and pressure flaking particularly on the rear end of blade; some further scars appear to be struck from the edges and probably represent post-depositional damage. This flint was previously noted by Mike Hemblade of the North Lincolnshire Historic Environment Record. Suggested date: Neolithic, 3500-2100 BC. Length: 50.8mm, Width: 21.1mm, Thickness: 5mm, Weight: 3.65gms.

Flint possible transverse arrowhead. Thin sub-triangular flake with broad flakes trimmed from uits dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface. The bulb would serve as the butt in the use proposed. A dense creamy patina suggests the object was subsequently exposed to a calcareous environment, a common feature of flint reported hereabouts, though unrelated to the local geology. A possibly incomplete and unfinished Mesolithic flint tranchet axe. The opaque creamy coloured flint has a small patch of cortex on one face and several large iron spots on the other face. Flint tranchet axehead. A thick oval flake with broad flakes removed from both sides by probably unidirectional hard hammer working; these included an angled blow removing a broad flake from one end, with localised evidence for light battering immediately adjacent. The resultant section is of an angular oval form. A dense buff patina suggests the object has endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment, while extensive orange staining might point either to its incorporation in gravel or to the underlying tint of the flint - which is uncertain. The discolouration points to an …
