Dark grey flint with cortex spot and dense misty patina, backed blade. Flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb on the ventral. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a slightly concave curving edge, interrupting the patina. The opposite edge is flat, affording a thumb-rest. Grey flint with cortex and dense creamy patina, backed blade. Flake with broad and parallel flakes trimmed from the dorsal side and with a bulb on the ventral. Short scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge, which is perhaps truncated by breakage in antiquity. The cortex appears to be retained to permit the exertion of pressure on the back or butt. A chip at the bulb is recent damage. The dense patina indicates the object endured long exposure after breakage and deposition. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 24.5mm, Width: 27.7mm, Thickness…

Grey flint with dense misty patina, backed blade. Flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a low bulb on the ventral. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long edge, probably to blunt it, and appears more intermittently along the opposite long edge. The retouch interrupts patina, so the re-use of a struck flake appears likely. The early Neolithic period may embrace both initial and secondary working. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 31.2mm, Width: 19.6mm, Thickness: 4.5mm, Weight: 3.10gms.

Pale grey flint with cortex spot and dense creamy patina, backed blade. Flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and rippled on the ventral. A single hard hammer strike detached a further flake from one long side to produce a cutting edge. The opposite edge and an adjacent end bear very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect to form a blunted back. The reworking disrupts thick patina, indicating the reuse of debitage which had already endured long exposure. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Pale grey flint with light misty patina patches, backed blade. Flake with a low bulb trimmed on the ventral surface and with very short abrupt retouch along part of one slightly concave long edge executed from the dorsal aspect. The retouch disrupts patina possibly acquired during a period of exposure, and appears intended to blunt the back of a small blade, though both primary and secondary working could be accommodated by the Early Neolithic period. Grey-brown translucent flint of high quality with cortex spot, possible backed blade. A long flake with broad and narrow parallel flakes struck longitudinally from its dorsal side, and with a bulb at the narrower end of a rippled ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect, perhaps combined with the results of edge-on impacts, follow one long straight edge; cortex remains along the opposite edge, where an edge may also have been trimmed. The object may have been incorporated into a sealed context until recently. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC

Grey flint, possibly collected from the East Coast, backed blade. A sub-triangular flake with two parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at one end of the ventral surface. The original surface, resembling a fine grey cortex and probably associated with a coastal provenance, is retained along a concave side, permitting pressure to be exerted on the opposite, convex, edge. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 27.5mm, Width: 16.6mm, Thickness: 5.2mm, Weight: 2.46gms

Pale grey flint with cortex strip; backed blade. A small thin flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at one end of the ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long edge; the opposite edge retains a strip of cortex enabling pressure to be brought to bear on the cutting edge. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 23.8mm, Width: 12.1mm, Thickness: 3.6mm, Weight: 1.57gms

Honey-coloured flint with cortex spot, backed blade. A thin oval flake with broad and narrow flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a concave ventral surface. Invasive angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long edge; the retention of cortex on part of the opposite long edge may have permitted pressure to be brought to bear on the putative working edge. This cutting edge may also have been serrated by very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect. A misty patina has developed over struck surfaces, and may indicate the object subsequently end…

Flint with cortex spot, backed blade. A small thin D-shaped flake with narrow and broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a slightly concave ventral surface. The curving edge served as a cutting edge, and the opposed flat straight side may have permitted pressure to be brought to bear on it. Milky patina has developed over struck surfaces, suggesting the object has endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 27.2mm, Width: 15.6mm, Thickness: 3.8mm, Weight: 1.77gms

Toffee-coloured red-brown flint backed blade. A thin sub-ovoid flake with long narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side, and with a flat if rippled ventral surface. Invasive angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the longest curved convex edge. Similar retouch executed from the ventral aspect is restricted to the upper end of the same cutting edge. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 42mm, Width: 26.5mm, Thickness: 4.8mm, Weight: 5.28gms

Grey flint with cortex, possibly collected from the East Coast, backed blade. Oval flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side to afford a thumb rest. The ventral side has a bulb at one end. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal; aspect follows one long curving edge, and slightly trims cortex on the opposite long edge, which, however, is largely left to permit pressure to be brought to bear on the cutting edge. Patches of misty patina may suggest the object endured a period of exposure after its deposition. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500 BC. Length: 32.…

Grey flint with cortex, possibly collected from the East Coast, backed blade. Flake with long broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and rippled on its concave ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows both long edges, and both appear to have received some subsequent battering, leaving it now uncertain which side was the original cutting edge. There is the appearance of further scalar retouch executed from the ventral aspect, but this may arise from fortuitous impact. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 41.4mm, Width: 21.4…
