A Neolithic to Early Bronze Age core or hammer stone. The opaque dark brown flint has cortex on the top and bottom of the dome-shaped nodule. Flakes of varying sizes have been removed from all the way around the core. Some faces have sustained some damage which suggests that the core may also be a hammer stone. The length is 50.9mm, the width is 60.7mm, the thickness is 34.3mm and the weight is 138.92g.

Black flint with dull grey band (though this perhaps arises from impact), from an irregular nodule with light external patination. Probably good quality flint, as from the East Coast or redeposited in glacial drift.
Possible Core. Irregular struck flint, with apparently controlled hard hammer flake removal scars on four faces. Further conchoidal fractures appear to be of very recent date, and a superficial appearance of retouch along edges probably also arises from fortuitous recent damage. The collection of this material, and the recognition of its potential for tool mak…

Cylindrical core with parallel flakes neatly struck from both ends, using a striking platform at right angles to its sides at one end, and a slanting platform at the other. A light patch of misty patina on one struck surface only may suggest the core was reused, though not long after its primary working.
