Grey and white banded flint plano-convex knife. Long narrow flake with a single long flake removed from its dorsal side and a bulb at one end on the ventral. Covering angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows all around the edge of the flake, and is only lacking at the site of initial trimming. The natural banding of the material is exploited for its decorative effect in a highly accomplished piece, and the initial and secondary working appears intended to permit the comfortable use of the tool, which is gently curved in profile. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2…

Dark grey flint with cortex debitage. Chunk from a nodule trimmed by abrupt hard hammer working which has produced flat faces at right angles to each other, and a negative hinged fracture along one edge; the aris between two such faces is battered, though this might be the result of natural abrasion. Suggested date: Bronze Age, 2350-800 BC. Length: 37.5mm, Width: 38.3mm, Thickness: 27.8mm, Weight: 46.69gms.

Oblique arrowhead, grey flint with cortex spot and cloudy patches of patina triangular arrowhead. Leaf-shaped flake with covering retouch on its dorsal side and with faint broad ripples on the ventral. The base of the point is lightly engrailed with an off-centre projection, a form anticipating the barbed and tanged type. Suggested date: Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, 2700-1600 BC. Pale grey flint with thick cloudy creamy patina barbed and tanged arrowhead. Flake with covering angled scalar retouch with abrupt working defining two barbs (one part lost) to either side of a chipped tang. The extent of patina suggests the object was subjected to prolonged weathering after its deposition. The broad curving cutting edge to the blade is suggested by the finder to show this arrowhead to be of Green Low type, and would promote blood loss to weaken prey and enable dogs to follow its spoor. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 26.5mm, Width: 21.7mm…

Dark grey semi-translucent flint of good quality with cortex. Plano-convex knife fragment. Flake with overall abrupt hard hammer working including the removal of long parallel flakes on its dorsal aspect, which retains a patch of cortex. The ventral side is rippled by hard hammer removal from the core. A notch in one side may be a deliberately formed feature or damage incurred and repaired in the working life of the knife. The finder has mended one broken end, and there are two large recent breaks at the other. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 43.6mm, Width…

Dark grey flint with cortex, patinated overall. Plano convex knife. Oval ended flake of lentoid section with abrupt retouch around its edge removing cortex from the dorsal aspect. One end may be reworked as an awl after breakage in antiquity; a chip in the side revealing the dark flint is recent. Both the featureless ventral side and all worked areas are patinated; a chip in the side is recent damage. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Mottled grey flint, rusty staining, scraper. Oval flake with broad flake removal scars struck from various directions on both sides, probably from abrupt hard hammer working. One curving edge bears short pressure flaked retouch. It is not clear which side was originally the dorsal, and which the ventral. Suggested date: Bronze Age, 2350-800 BC. Dark grey flint with cortex thumbnail scraper. Plano-convex flake with abrupt flake removal which has partially removed cortex from the dorsal side, and with a low bulb of percussion on the ventral. Edge damage probably disrupts hard hammer retouch of the curving edge. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 27.1mm, Width: 24.7mm, Thickness: 10.2mm, Weight: 7.51gms

Grey Flint; two fragments (a and b), both associated with copper alloy items NLM-F5AEB0, NLM-B31E53 and NLM-B34183, which together comprise a ritual deposit of sword and baldrick in a spring.. a) Debitage or Core, with at least four long flake removal scars. Suggested date of deposition: Late Bronze Age, 1000-800 BC, though the long blade removal scars appears to this reporter more characteristic of Neolithic material. The measurements appearing below are for this object. Length: 33.3mm, Width: 23.3mm, Thickness: 24.1mm, Weight: 23.84gms. b) Possible Debitage. Flint chip with…

Brown flint with cortex spot possible fabricator. A long thick flake with two broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a slightly convex ventral surface, overall of lentoid or lightly biconvex section. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows part of one long edge; the other bears adventitious impact damage. The ventral surface appears worn. Grey flint fabricator fragment. A thick rod with rounded end, of a massy lentoid section, formed by overall/covering angled scalar retouch; the size of flakes detached must argue hard hammer working. The object was possibly lightly trimmed at its butt end, perhaps after breakage. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 59.4mm, Width: 30.2mm, Thickness: 16.9mm, Weight: 34.86gms

Flint with cortex core. Flint pebble with broad flakes removed from two sides by unidirectional working from a flat platform. The object is heavily crazed, indicating it has been intensely heated. This would probably be in a hearthside situation, as the stone is explosively unsuitable for use as a pot boiler. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC.
