Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Pale grey flint possible leaf arrowhead fragment. About two thirds of a flat leaf-shaped object with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at the base of its ventral surface, probably used as a butt when mounting the point. Misty patina may suggest its subsequent exposure to a calcareous environment; as this passes across the broken edge the putative arrowhead was broken in antiquity. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2500 BC

Grey flint with cortex, backed blade. Small oval flake with a large flake struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at one end of its ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one convex edge; cortex is retained along the opposite side to permit pressure to be brought to bear on the cutting edge. Patches of misty patina may suggest its subsequent exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC

Grey-buff flint debitage. A long narrow flake with long narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a concave ventral surface. Dense creamy patina across struck surfaces suggests the object has subsequently endured long exposure to a calcareous environment; rust staining may hint at its incorporation into gravels. The removal of patina by short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect shows the later reuse of the flake, perhaps during the Neolithic (4000-2350 BC). Oval flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side, a bulbar ventral surface, and with angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect following one long side. Further short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect follows part of one curving end; further chips hereabouts are probably the result of adventitious edge-on impacts. Flint borer. A thick sub-triangular flake with broad flakes detached by hard hammer strike from its dorsal side, defining a narrow three-sided projection. The ventral surface is bulbar, with a hollow at the top [as illustrated]. Grey flint possible scraper fragment. Triangular flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a negative hinge fracture forming a smooth-surfaced groove across the ventral surface, oriented at right angles to the working on the dorsal side.
