Pale grey flint with cortex possible knife fragment. A large flake with an apparently curved cutting edge, neatly truncated on one end where a flat and possibly smoothed surface of lentoid form appears. A large flake has been removed from behind the putative cutting edge by hard hammer strike from the dorsal aspect, possibly affording a thumb rest. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect appears to follow the curving edge, its progress marked by the removal of a pale patinated surface to reveal the pale grey flint below – though a similar colour change also appears …

Pale buff flint knife, as kindly identified by the finder. A curved triangular-section flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at the broader end of its ventral surface. Angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curving convex outer edge of the concavo-convex form. Dense creamy patina suggests the object has subsequently endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment; the tint of flint is revealed by a small chip at the narrow end. Grey-buff flint knife, as kindly identified by the finder. Trapezoid flake with two broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one straight –and perhaps broken before that reworking – edge. This edge is also lightly battered. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect follows an adjacent and slightly longer side to form a more robust cutting edge. Grey flint knife. Flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side by unidirectional working, and with a bulb and platform at the broader end of the ventral surface. Invasive angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect strays across one side and may follow one edge to produce a knife without a back edge, but the flake is probably neither finished nor further used. Opaque pale grey-buff flint knife. Thick sub-triangular flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a markedly bulbar ventral surface; cortex has re-formed over the associated striking platform. Invasive long angled parallel retouch executed from the dorsal aspect defines a cutting edge along one straight side and a more limited zone at the site of an opposite lobe. Invasive angled scalar retouch also trims the bulbar ventral surface, and very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect forms a more ephemeral cutting edge along an adjacent long side. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect follows one long edge from the bulb to form a short cutting edge, and very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect also follows the wavy edge of the broader end to blunt or trim it; these features may suggest reuse of a previously discarded and weathered flake. Pale buff flint possible knife fragment. Perhaps one half of a thin oval flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a flat or very slightly concave ventral surface. A long narrow flake is struck from along a putative cutting edge. The form might also suggest an over-sized barbed and tanged arrowhead, though the concave ventral surface would probably interfere with flight if it were so deployed. Grey flint with cortex, knife. A thin oval-ended flake with a flat dorsal surface bearing patches of a cloudy white patina, probably formed by hard hammer strike, and with a bulb on the ventral surface. The ventral surface bears a paler patina which may suggest an interval between initial working and finishing. Invasive angled retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curved edge of the flake, with its butt left at the bulbar end. These retouched areas then acquired a pale grey patina, indicating the object was finally deposited in a calcareous environment. Interruption of p…

Pale buff flint, credibly suggested by the finder to be local; discoid knife. Both sides bear angled covering retouch executed with a hard hammer, and producing a profile which tapers towards a cutting edge running most of the way around the object. The remainder, forming a butt at the thickest part, is lightly battered. Suggested date: Late Neolithic, 2700-2350 BC. Length: 33.0mm, Width: 29.8mm, Thickness: 15.0mm, Weight: 13.21gms

Grey flint knife. Long sub-triangular flake with long parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with an almost flat ventral surface with a bulb at one end. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one end of a long straight edge. A pointed end may be defined or emphasised by retouch executed from the ventral aspect on both sides of the point. A light misty patina has developed over one part of the ventral surface, which may suggest a limited exposure to a calcareous environment. . Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 66.8mm, Width: 20.1mm,…

Pale grey-buff flint knife. Flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb on the ventral side. Misty white patina suggests the flake was then exposed for a period to a calcareous environment. The patina is interrupted along one long edge by short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect. Chips on the opposite edge probably arise from fortuitous impacts. The Neolithic could accommodate both primary and secondary working. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC. Length: 41.1mm, Width: 20.9mm, Thickness: 5.7mm, Weight: 4.83gms

Flint knife. Oval-ended thin flake with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface. What appears at first sight to be a broken end is actually the site of a positive hinged fracture. Chips along the putative parallel cutting edges are the result of probably fortuitous impacts in antiquity. Dense creamy patina extends over all surfaces, including the hinge fracture, suggesting the object is complete, and that it has endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment after its deposition. Suggested date: Early Neolithic, 4000-3500. Length…
