Grey slightly cloudy Flint. Debitage. Oval flint with fresh hard-hammer removal of flakes from one surface; damage resulting in the removal of convex flakes, perhaps ancient, occurs on the other face, which is lightly patinated. The freshly worked surfaces all appear very sharp and well-defined. If working indeed took place in antiquity, it was apparently abandoned before this object could be used, and the object must have been removed from a hitherto undisturbed context. Semi-translucent high quality grey-brown flint with small patch of cortex on striking platform. Debitage. Struck flake with prominent ripples from hard hammer working, and either slight retouch or damage. The dorsal surface shows two parallel blade removal scars, presumably before a further strike removed this flake from a core. The selection of high quality material and the removal of blades may both suggest a Neolithic date. Suggested date: Neolithic, 3500-2100 BC.
