A lithic tool uncertain date, possibly heat affected and also utilised as a hammer stone. Likely upper Paleolithic (c.40000-11000) or Neolithic-Early Bronze age date (c. 4000 BC - 1000 BC). Description: The tool is roughly ovoid with a heavy cortex area in the centre of one side. The base has had flaking away from the centre leaving an apex point at the centre and the entire flint triangle in cross-section. The bifacial working can be described as invasive to covering, scaled and semi-abrupt. Parts of the flint have been heat affected and then battered likely indicating the object'…

A possible lithic implement or point possibly dating from the Lower Palaeolithic to Early Middle Palaeolithic c.450,000-180,000 BC. Description: The implement is formed from a triangular tetiary flake With the right edge being formed by invasive scaled semi-abrupt retouch. The left edge has short scaled abrupt retouch. The striking platform at the base of the implement has been battered and finished. The patination is heavy and leaves it a light brown colour. Measurements: 47.41mm long, 43.61mm wide, 12.09mm thick and 23g in weight. Discussion: The degree of wear and patinati…

A large irregular bifacially worked lithic tool possiblyof middle Palaeolithic date, c.250000 - 40000 BC. Description: The object is discoidal but very thick and very uneven. There is no primary striking platform but a number of strikes from the edge and from the centre of the object. It has no clear edges but would have produced large curved flakes. There is a large central patch of cortex on one side and has frequent inclusions and similar which would have made working with the object difficult. The flaking retouch on this tool can be described as invasive scaled semi-abrupt It …

A lithic implement of uncertain type dating to the early Mesolithic period, c.9000 - 8000 BC. Description: The tool is roughly rectangular with one pointed end and triangular in cross-section. It is obliquely blunted with short scaled abrupt retouch along one edge. it is a light grey tansluscent colour. Measurements: 30.74mm long, 12.65mm wide, 6.58mm thick and 2.64g in weight. Discussion: Despite clear retouch the exact identity of this tool is uncertain its small size and probable relationship to the microlith industries of the Mesolithic make a Mesolithic date most likely.

An uncertain lithic implement of Mid-Neolithic to early Bronze Age date c.3300BC-1000BC. Description:The object is roughly diamond shape with an irregular edge bottom right (dorsal face). The left dorsal edge has fine short scaled low-angle retouch from the top along until roughly a large hinge fracture occurs across the dorsal face creating a scar three quarters of the width of the flint. after this the retouch becomes invasive scaled abrupt, becoming less and less fine as you move anti-clockwise along the edge particularly around the striking platform. Retouch along the rest of t…

A flint waisted tool of Early Neolithic date, 4000-3500. Description: The tool has a wide rounded scraping/working edge which narrows forming a long rectangular 'shank/tang' and is semi-circular in cross-section. The retouch along the scraping edge can be described as long scaled semi-abrupt.is primarily on the dorsal face. Along the edge of the rectangular 'shank/tank' has invasive scaled crossed abrupt retouch and also has 'crushing' to blunt the edges. The dorsal face has cortex covering much of rectangular end with some creeping onto the left part of the working dge. The ventra…

A complete flint implement of uncertain use and date, Middle Palaeolithic to early Bronze Age, 60,000- 1000 BC. Description: The implement is triangular in plan and very much resembles a form of projectile point but doesn't fit well documented types and thus its use remains uncertain. It has long scaled low angle retouch along all edges, which comes in from both edges but most predominately from the dorsal face. The bulb of percussion is very subtle, the bulbar scar appears to have been removed on the ventral face. The flint is mottled med blue-grey with some white specks. Measu…
