NMGWPA 2002.92.1 (EF2272) – Flint pebble with central void. A cortical flint pebble of interesting form. The central hole, while appearing man made has a natural cortical skin, suggesting it is a geological phenomenon. The ‘point’ of the object exhibits a number of impact fractures, but there is no evidence of systematic working, ruling out the object as a Prehistoric tool (awl or knife). The flint shows evidence of water rolling. The object was found in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, and was likely to have been picked up on or near the coast. There are concentrations of beach peb…

A secondary flint waste flake of uncertain (Mesolithic to Bronze Age ) date. The proximal end of the sub-triangular flake exhibits a prominent bulb-of-percussion and bulb scar, beneath which is a conchoidal fracture. The proximal end of the flake retains some of the original flint cortex. On the dorsal surface, arrises separate three flake removal scars. The edges of the flake are chipped, probably as a result of post-depositional damage. The exposed flint is dark grey and unpatinated. Length:28.1mm; width:40.1mm; thickness: 7.6mm. Weight: 8.34g

Complete prehistoric flint implement, possibly a large scraper. Date unknown. Length 101mm, width 112mm and 27mm thick. Weight 288g. The scraper is sub-triangular in plan and has been produced on a naturally fractured “lump”. The ventral surface is probably a natural fracture and the lump has been utilised and formed into a large scraper. The dorsal surface is mainly occupied by cortex which is “pitted”. The pitting is probably the result of the implement having been used as a hammer. All three edges have been retouched and the removals are abrupt/crossed abrupt, short and sca…

A lithic implement, possibly representing the top of a flint axe. The axe is small, triangular in plan and also in cross-section. The axe is well worn and all of the edges are rounded. The flint is a mottled light brown-yellow colour. There is cortex or re-cortication at the butt end. There is a suggestion that this is lower or middle Palaeolithic, but this identification must only be taken with great caution.
