Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Mesolithic to Neolithic worked flake, knapped from dark brown flint. There is a slight bulb of percussion at the proximal end with impact ripples running along the length of the ventral surface. The dorsal surface has narrow ridges along its length where previous flakes have been removed. Impact ripples from these previous removals run both from the proximal end and the distal end, suggesting that the flint nodule was turned 180 degrees during knapping. There is semi-abrupt retouch along the right edge of the flint. It is 48.83mm long, 22.53mm wide, 6.48mm thick and weighs 9.07 grams.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Suffolk

Complete worked flint flake. This flake is subtriangular in plan, with the proximal end forming the flatter base of the triangle. There is a clear bulb of percussion and signs of flaking on the ventral face. On the right edge of the dorsal face, towards the point, are clear signs of retouch. It is possible that this is an abandoned attempt at making an arrowhead. Unfortunately work has halted before signs of wheter it would have been a leaf shaped Neolithic arrow head or a barbed and tanged Early Bronze Age arrow head. The flint is an even mid grey. The flake is 37.18mm long, 20.02mm w…
