An incomplete knapped lithic implement of late Neolithic to early Bronze Age date, circa 2700 BC - 1600 BC. The implement is a fragment of the proximal portion of a plano-convex knife formed from a tertiary flake which is D-shaped in plan and ovate in section. The ventral surface of the flake is flat. The dorsal surface displays short, low angled, sub-parallel removals along the edges. The flint is a light grey colour. The implement is 23.9mm long, 22mm wide, 4.7mm thick and weighs 2.5g.

Object type: KNIFE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Incomplete flint laurel leaf knife point of probable Neolithic date (c. 4000 - 2350 BC). The flint is a mottled grey and white colour. There is a flat edge where it has been broken from the complete implement. The object is consequently sub-triangular in plan and bi-convex in section, tapering slightly towards its point which sits slightly to one side. There is limited bi-facial retouch which is invasive, subparallel and low-angle and while the edge is sharp, it does not appear to have been finely worked. The length of the fragment is 47.86mm, it is 30.01mm at maximum width and 9.12mm…

Object type: CORE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete flint core of late Mesolithic date, c.7000 - 4000 BC. The core is conical with a tapering sub-square section. A single striking platform is present from which multiple negative scars from blade removal extend over one face. The flint is a dark grey colour. The implement is 28.1mm long, 36.1mm wide, 31.9mm thick and weighs 36.3g. This is a relatively small core, suggesting it could have been carried around and maintained for continued use to produce small blades as required over time. Broader flakes are indicative of an earlier Mesolithic date, with a general move towa…

A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The implement is possibly a very small scraper and is formed from a tertiary flake which is ovate in plan and D-shaped in section. The ventral surface is smooth with a bulb of percussion visible. The dorsal surface is irregular with short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt retouch around the distal edge. The flint is a light white colour. The implement is 17.3mm long, 17.4mm wide, 4.2mm thick and weighs 1g.
